To suggest that the black man is God would be blashphemy within Islam. But then, the sect of 'black Islam' in the US is nothing much like the real thing in the Middle East. The Taliban would hate rap music.....or just about any music, for that matter!

True that they use PEACE as an acronym but I've often heard them say "Positive Energy Always Creates Elevation"

Part of the NGE is they believe a black man created a mutant which is where whites come from. It's called Yacub's theory. Look it up.

Also they don't care much for other non NGE members unless it's for recruitment.

Interesting that AP comes out with an article on this for the first time at 6:27pm, 45 minutes after Freeper hispanarepublicana posted Are the Snipers Part of the "Five Percent Nation"? ("The Black Man is God" Among Teachings), based on his research on the Net.

In any event, it's an AP report, which is fair game, so here goes:

Sniper Letter Linked to Movement

By Tim Molloy
Associated Press Writer
Saturday, October 26, 2002; 6:27 PM

NEW YORK –– The letter left at the scene of a sniper shooting contains phrases often associated with a group that believes the black man is God and spreads its message through prison recruitment and popular hip-hop music.

An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment Saturday on whether authorities were looking into the possibility that the writer borrowed from the language of the Five Percent movement, which teaches that education and family are of central importance. It rejects drinking, drugs and fornication, as well as most accepted history, authority and religion.

The 39-year-old movement started as an offshoot of the Nation of Islam, but Five Percenters say they are not Muslims. The group teaches that black men are to be called "God" and black women "Earth," and that only five percent of the population is enlightened.

The letter found near a steakhouse in Ashland, Va., where one of the shootings occurred demanded police refer to the author as "God," and a tarot card left near a shooting outside a school declared, "I am God."

"I'm not saying he's a Five Percenter. I don't know that. Only that 'I am God' is something a Five Percenter might say," said Robert Walker, a private consultant based in Columbia, S.C., who helps police identify gangs. "All black men who are followers and members of the Five Percenters refer to themselves as God and will even refer to someone else who is a Five Percenter as a God also."

The letter also included the phrase "word is bond," also widely used by Five Percenters, who often call their movement the Nation of Gods and Earths.

The letter, which was reprinted in The Washington Post on Saturday, had five stars on the title page. Walker said the stars were similar to ones that symbolize children to followers of the movement.

A man who answered the phone at the Allah School in Mecca, the national headquarters of the movement, located in New York, said members of the group had no comment. He would not give his name.

FBI spokeswoman Debbie Weierman said she could not comment on an ongoing investigation.

Walker, a former prison security coordinator and Drug Enforcement Administration agent, stressed that most people involved in the movement have nothing to do with crime.

But prison officials in several states have censored the group's teachings despite complaints by inmate advocates that they are trampling on freedom of religion. Some prison systems have labeled all Five Percenters as gang members.

The Five Percent movement is so influential in hip-hop music that "word is bond" and other popular Five Percent phrases are ubiquitous in songs by such artists as Busta Rhymes, the Wu-Tang Clan and Brand Nubian.

John Allen Muhammad, who along with teenager John Lee Malvo was charged Friday in the six sniper slayings in Maryland, converted several years ago to Islam and changed his name from John Allan Williams.

Many Muslims have said that a follower of Islam would not say "I am God" because it would be sacrilegious.

Walker said Five Percenters often change their names, but usually pick from a list that does not include the word "Muhammad."

He also said Five Percenters typically end letters with the word, "peace," which group members mean as an abbreviation for "please elevate all children everywhere."

The letter's postscript had no such good wishes: "Your children are not safe anywhere at anytime."

For a deeper expose of this group and its parent (the Nation of Islam), the interested reader might wish to examine the autobiography of the late Malik Al-Shabaz (Malcolm X).

Yea. I find them only slightly smarter than Kemetic Scientists. Not that they're all that different.

I've spent many days arguing on a college website with them.

5%er's or The Nation of Gods and Earths

Scope: Five Percenters were founded in 1964 by a disgruntled member of the Nation of Islem(NOI), Temple #7 in Harlem.

Gender Make-up: Male and Female

Racial Make-up: Exclusively African-American

Organization: Very organized

Gang Colors: No formal colors. but black, gold and green have been seen in their logo

Alliances: Black Panthers; Black Hebrew Israelite (BHI) movement

Rivals: All white people, they believe the White Man is the "devil" and not to be trusted

Propensity for Violence: Some 5% members are known for drive by shootings involved in disputes over drug turf. Members are known for ritualized killings of members who "rip off" profits on drugs. The killing ritual usually involves the shooting of the individual five times; four to the chest and one to the head. Members have little regard for public safety or human life and can be directed at anyone they feel has crossed them or is in their way especially Non African-Americans.

Within the various State Departments of Correction, violence by the 5%ers has been increasing. The probable reason is the larger numbers of members being incarcerated within our systems. However, members are known to show a lack of respect for law enforcement and correction's personnel. Staff should use caution when dealing with 5% members. Members are usually well informed with the laws and rights of individuals and have been known to affect 1st Amement rights of speech and religion. Members have proven that they will take whatever steps necessary to avoid arrest, commit violent acts while in custody, murder witnesses, and effect an escape by any means possible.

Identification: Within the prison facilities it is hard to distinguish members of this group from Nation of Islam members because many of their initial teachings or "lessons" are the same. One of the best ways to identify 5%er's is by their AKA or nick-name. Many have legally changed their names to reflect their chosen attribute. Examples of these names are; Infinite Allah , Be God, Justice Born Allah

Nation of Gods and Earths founded in 1964 by Clarence 13X after he left Nation of Islam.

Born Clarence Smith in 1929, he moved to Harlem from Virginia in 1946 and joined the NOI several years later. He worshipped at Temple No. 7, then under the leadership of Malcolm X, was a gifted speaker and rose quickly to the position of student minister. When Clarence 13X left NOI in 1963, he took the lessons of the honorable Elijah Muhammed to the streets of New York. Five Percent doctrine remains closely linked to NOI teachings.

Clarence 13X added to Elijah's teachings, but rejected the NOI belief that founder Wallace Fard was God, reasoning instead that the collective black man was God. The religion is named after the idea that only five percent of the population is righteous.

Thanks to Clarence 13X's close relationship with Mayor John Lindsey, in 1967 the Five Percenters leased a prime piece of Harlem property from the city. The "Allah School in Mecca" still serves as Five Percent headquarters. Painted above the building's entrance are the words "The Black Man Is God."

Clarence 13X was killed by unknown assailants two years after Allah School in Mecca was opened, but Five Percenters believe city police were behind the plot.

Clarence 13X taught that once a man achieved mastery of self, he became God, to the extent that he controlled his own destiny. Five Percent men refer to themselves as Gods and women as Earths, and the religion is commonly referred to as The Nation of Gods and Earths.

Five Percenters depart from NOI in their teaching of the Supreme Alphabet and Supreme Mathematics, an arcane system devised by Clarence 13X wherein each letter or numeral denotes a concept with an accompanying parable. "A" stands for Allah, "B" is Be or Born, "C" is See and so on. This process of teaching is referred to as "dropping science" or "sciencing out."

For example, the 14th degree (letter) of the Supreme Alphabet "N" stands for Now and Nation, and begins something like this:

"Now is the time for the Black man to wake up and come into the realization of Islam, which is the true and righteous Self, which is his true Nature and his true Nation."

Clarence 13X's esoteric street gnosis was delivered in a staccato "rap" that mesmerized New York City youth. Members were trained to deliver their rap, and the group won converts by the hundreds. Today the group numbers in the tens of thousands in New York City alone.

From its inception, according to social science professor Yusuf Nuruddin of Medgar Evers College in New York, the prison system was an important conduit for the religion fanning across the country.

In an environment where a bowel movement is a public event and every request a power struggle, adherence to a haughty ideology that deifies the collective Black Man is a political act, a manner in which to register protest against the institution.

There are, no doubt, some followers who join Five Percent precisely for that reason. Black supremacist ideology, as Nuruddin has noted, tends to flourish in environments of impoverishment and decay because the message speaks directly to disenchanted.

By the mid-seventies Five Percenters had become part of the African-American inner city experience, and 10 years later the group had organized meetings on the West Coast, especially in Los Angeles.

Contemporary rap artists like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and Lakim Shabazz have used the Five Percent flag on album covers and have written lyrics influenced by its doctrine.

Five Percent continues to be dominated by young adherents. Part of the religion's allure is that there is no leader and the group's meetings, called parliaments, generally occur in public places.

Some members of NOI were once Five Percenters, according to NOI member and printer H. Khalif Khalifa. The group has always been viewed as the most threatening Islamic group because they are young and win converts preaching racial consciousness with a potent inner-city parlance.

they believe the White Man is the "devil" and not to be trusted

This may explain something I heard at work yesterday. A white woman I work with is married to a black man. She was telling me about some NOI people handing out flyers downtown one day. The man would not give her husband one because he was married to the "green-eyed devil". She just assumed it was NOI. Mayebe it was the 5%ers.

From a website I found....

Five Percenters are extremely adept at the "breaking down" of words, in order to arrive at their true, esoteric meaning, in accordance with Master Farad's and Father Allah's lessons. For instance, from Pete Rock and CL Smooth:
Libraries, broken down as lies buried...
Television tell a lie vision
-- "Anger in the Nation" (Mecca and the Soul Brother)
--Or, the Roots:
U-n-i- verse - you and I verse.
-- "UNIverse at War" (Illadelph Halflife)
--Buckshot (of Black Moon): all we need is Jesus, which means Jes- us, or "Just Us," to save ourselves.
