As much as I hate this type of outcome, we had better get used to it. It's the only language Islamic terrorists understand and one day we will have to understand that if we are to have any chance of putting a stop to them. Hat's off to Putin.

Good points, but I don't know just how much we can really trust Putin and Russia (in case something happens to him) with high-tech weapons.

Trust is always hard. Putin was KGB before the collapse of the Soviet Union.

We must deal with him as he deals with us. He can prove himself trustwortby or not. So far, he has been a honest man.

What a tragedy for these victims' poor families, and a heavy burden on President Putin. I too think he seems like a decent man. I hope this attack bring our two countries' leadership closer together against terrorism.

I am struck that the female hostage-takers look merely asleep from the weapons gas. I didn't detect the wounds or 'startled' pose that come with gunfire.

I also am saddened to be reminded that these Islamic terrorists are ethnic Slavs, as Slavic as their Russian counterparts, yet they have nursed an abiding hatred of Christianity and have rejected their authentic religious and cultural heritage for a bankrupt death cult.

This may be the begining of the end for the terrorists. Although Russia and the United States have areas of difference, our areas of common interest are far greater.

Putin made the right decision.

Putin made the right decision
He certainly did. I hope if there is a next time, the decision will be made to hit back as soon as the manpower is gathered together. No waiting 3 days. You hit us, we take you out. End of story. Actually, I prefer the pre-emptive actions Isreal is taking. Because if one or two slimey, cowardly terrorists kill 3 or 4 or 20 citizens, it is a war of numbers and they eventaully win. This is why Arafat delays, delays, delays.

Time will reveal the deadly truth.

Putin is in kahoots with Saddam.

All good points, but I don't forget that he's doing business with Iraq.

I *want* to trust him very much, but I'm still a bit wary.

"Trust but verify" is a very wise policy. I rather like Putin, but I'll always be suspicious of him.

Shame on you, Chick. You do know that the USA is Iraq's biggest trade partner?

Lighting candles in a church... another sign of great progress in Russia.

This never stopped. No even under Stalin.

Roto - Reuter news has difficulty distinguishing what a terorist is. Remember, way back when, they announced that to some these folks are terrorists but to their own they are heros - or something like that.

Your point about Slavic ancestry (I think indicating how the Islamic death cult twists people's perceptions of the world) is not correct in this case, although it WOULD be accurate regarding the Bosnian Muslims, who were originally Serbian or Croatian but were in the small minority that went over to be exempt from the "boy tax" etc under Turkish tyranny.

Actually, the Chechens are no more Slavic than Osama bin Laden. Chechnya has only been inside Russia since about the 1860's, and before that has been essentially mountain tribes that were converted to Islam centuries before the Slavs even came near the area.

Our prayers are with the hostages and their families, and with the bravery and skill of the rescuers.

I believe the networks did a real disservice by not reporting very much on this, yet I also believe that had there been a huge explosion and a thousand people killed, they would have rushed to cover it.
