Stunned by Sen. Paul Wellstone's death, shaken state Democrats tried to decide who might replace him in a race that could decide control of the U.S. Senate.

Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer said the law allows the party to nominate a new candidate to run in Wellstone's spot. She declined to address other details, including how absentee ballots already filled out would be handled.

I feel guilty about it, but I was kind of hoping that Kennedy was on the plane too. Fat slob will probably live to 100.

Funny you should mention that. I was on an Eastern shuttle once from DC to LaGuardia 20-odd years ago, when who should show up in the mad proletarian shuffle on the no-assigned-seat cattle car shuttle to New York, but the big Fat Boy himself, his way of "keeping in touch with the teeming masses", I s'pose.

The pilot was not too good. We made three attempts, and on the third attempt - we pounded in hard - and I remember thinking, stupid thought as it was, if I died - at least it wouldn't be a total loss - because the fat POS was going in with me. The mind thinks wierd things when faced with the Ultimate.

******** TWO FOR TWO *********

Is it true, as the Drudge Report is headlining, that Mondale may take Wellstones Seat?

Odd how the now deceased-Wellstone was in a losing race..

The New Jersey Ballot-Switch was questionable because the candidate hadn't died...yet the Democrats were successful in replacing a losing candidate with a more Probable WIN!

And NOW, add another losing-Democrat to the heap, except this one is dead!

If this is really happening...that the Democrats are replacing LOSING candidate with more WINNING ones...

Then Presidential-Hopeful Hillary Rodham is more BEAST than even we suspect she is!

Watch Out America...LIBERTY is on the edge, EVIL is on the Prowl..and VICTORY will be HERS!

{whether we vote for it or not!)

Are you guys sure about this? If so, I will sleep better tonight.

I'm sure that the law is crystal clear on this. That doesn't mean that an activist court can't rewrite the law, but this comes at the worst possible time for the Democrats.

They have time under the law to comply and name a new candidate. It defeats any argument to a court's equitable powers to rewrite the law because the current law doesn't work.

I'm not saying that the Democrats won't do everything they can to hold onto this seat. I'm sure they will. But this is going to be a tough one for them to pull out.

I have become so jaded that in recent years that nothing would surprise me at this point. I believe that the Rats would sell out our very nation for political gain.

Thank you. You should see the conspiracy theories flying over at democraticunderground.com. They asked why republican Senators never die in small plane crashes? Probably because they are too smart to fly into freezing rain.

... the law also says that absentee ballots will not be reprinted, and any absentee ballots cast for Wellstone, will be counted for Wellstone, not for the new candidate!

That's because the voters voted for Wellstone. Only Democrat "diving the voters intention" could say they would choose the replacement. There's no way to prove all voters would vote for both Democrats. It would seen UNfair to "guess" what the voters would do.

Uhh, where are getting your information? The latest polls had him leading by about 7 points.

Honest. I heard on FOX today he fell 4 points behind in the last poll. They didn't name the poll. It was reported today.

I'm in MN. Local talk show host had a list of political candidates or representatives that had died in plane crashes.

The list had about a dozen names on it, both (R) and (D) dating back as far as 1940. Every few years it happens.

I've been trying to find it but haven't had any luck. If it doesn't show up by Monday I'll call the show and ask him to put it on his website.

You're right about the poll. Also, Zogby had Coleman up by about 6 at last count.

This poll that's being quoted is from the (Red) Star Tribune. Local liberal rag. Never met a dem they didn't fall in love with.

Here in MN, we figure if the (Red) Star Tribune has the dem up by 7 points it must be a dead heat LOL!

Welstone is now being replaced. Coinsidence? Does Toricelli ring a bell? He was losing, too.
The supreme court is up for grabs. We could take the court. Would the Democrats eat their own to stop us? Well.....yes.
