The disorganized nature of this pair and their ludicrous $10 million demand on a stolen credit card does not mean large-scale terrorist links should be ruled out. Richard Reid (the would-be shoe bomber) wasn't exactly the brightest bulb in the box, but he was still selected for the mission (in my opinion - I don't think he acted alone). Maybe Al Qaeda or some other offshoot is experimenting to see if they can use their stupidest members up first. No use losing the brains of the operation if you have plenty of idiots willing to step up to the plate.

Very perceptive of ya! It is an age old tactic of using the worst troops to wear down the enemy, then throw in your best stormtroopers to exploit the opening.. Of course, in the Iran-Iraq war in the 80s, they had kids and old folks run through the mine fields to clear the way.
