You know what? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and hold to my original theory. I've just gotten home and haven't read through all the news here on FR yet, but I heard this morning that the 17 yr. old is supposed to be John Mohammed's "step-son", but I don't know if that has been confirmed yet. He told people it was his step-son. If these two aren't related by blood or marriage, I'm willing to bet that there's some hanky-panky between the two of them. I bet this is one of those "toxic" relationships, where they probably weren't dangerous until they got together.
