The word Grenade came from the word for pomegranite, due to the similarity in shape of early grenades and the fragmentary nature of the fruit.

According to the dictionary I checked, both use the root which means "grain" in Latin -- because the fruit is full of grains, and so is the grenade. Etymology is cool stuff.
