Even for a domestic, I don't think 10M is a lot of money - not enough to live a life on the run. Of course I deal with space budgets...$10M is a rounding error.

But $10 mil may be a lot of money to the killer (or killers). But why not $100 million? A billion? Why pick that number and not, say, $126,875,321? Because it feels so good when the shooter says it?

In the '89 or '90 abduction of Melissa Brannen from the DC area, ransom was demanded by Anthony Girard McCraxy, 23, and Emmett Muriel Grier III, 20 (a Howard U student). They were caught after the pickup of the ransom and it was determined that they had no part in the kidnapping. They received some prison time and should be out. Another man was eventually convicted.
