No. Since a .223 is a supersonic bullet it cannot be silenced. Muffled slightly perhaps, but only on the muzzleblast. The bullet itself will crack with it's own sonic boom.

What if he didn't "practice" with .223 ammo? They're definitely looking for casings in that area.

Side thought -- they must be darned sure that they have this guy nailed to let all this leak so badly and hugely...or they bungled HORRIBLY...
