Liberal black leaders need new targets for their outrage

Thus it was on Sept. 29, when a lynching occurred on one of those plantations with oppressive conditions that Belafonte feels are extant in the land.
The victim was black, but the lynchers weren't white. Had they been, the uproar from black America would have been deafening. Nor did Charles Young Jr. die after a police shooting of the type which touched off rioting on the Cincinnati plantation a few years ago.
No, the lynchers of Young were all black, ranging in age from 10 to 32 years old. Most of the mob of 15 that attacked Young were juveniles. The incident occurred at 10:30 on a Sunday night, meaning that, if effective parenting were going on at all, the 10-, 11-, 13- and 14-year-olds would have and should have been in their homes, preparing for school Monday.
But you can't say that in America these days. That's "blaming the victim." Or, using Belafonte's bizarre analogy, it's blaming the field slaves still suffering oppression on the plantation.
It's much easier to criticize movie producers, directors, writers and actors. It's much better, psychologically speaking, to bash Bush and Powell. It's just no fun suggesting that the black parents of those hoodlums act like parents.

The blacker-than-thou paradox divides*** On my tiny Texas campus of fewer than 1,000 students, only fools refused to read and study diligently. Only fools destroyed their brains with drugs. Only fools physically hurt their brethren. In fact, "being smart" was in. We called it being "heavy." We even expected jocks to be heavy. All musicians, especially the jazz types, were heavy. Black power meant just that: being black and powerful, being armed with education and the drive to improve our lot in a hostile environment where the very concept of racial egalitarianism was still alien to most white Americans. Black power meant sharing the good and eliminating the bad.
In time, the concept of black power changed. Instead of being a sentiment that united us, it became a source of deep division. Those who followed Martin Luther King and his nonviolent movement, for example, were not as black as those who followed, say, Malcolm X's philosophy or that of the fearless Black Panthers. No longer bringing us together, black power had become a negative litmus test for one's degree of "blackness." We had entered the "Blacker than Thou" era. On campuses nationwide, black students separated themselves into enclaves.***
We have no leaders to save our black men*** "I was astonished recently when I read a study about a city's school system where out of nearly 6,000 African-American males in its high school, only 135 earned a B average or higher. Yet, we black people seem paralyzed to act, to mobilize -- to be outraged! We have failed miserably in addressing, for lack of a better description, "self-destruction of the black man.' Today . . . women head 70 percent of black households! Now you tell me, how are young black boys going to learn how to be men? Folks, what we have . . . is a national crisis -- demanding the highest attention of civic, business and government leaders. I am proposing that communities across the country initiate and start a "Save the Black Man Project.'***

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Why cant they throw off the yoke of being slaves "They are still slaves but its in their own minds" If they would wake up into 2002 they would find out that belafonte and other blacks of the same ilk are the ones holding black people back !

When 99% vote (sell their souls) for the Democratic Party, it's easy to see why blacks are pawns and not players.

When black disenfranchisment stops being a free ride, far less black teenagers will go that route. Welfare is like heroin. Being paid to hate and be offended tends to breed a lot more hate and offense.
I have enough Cherokee blood to register and get a free ride on the Rez. Ever seen a Rez? The exact same thing is happening there, everybody is pointing fingers, who is redder than red. The core of the problem is the free ride. If you are red enough, you "deserve" the free ride. If you not pure red, you "deserve" less of a free ride. You end up with the same effect in trying to maintain the old ways. I am more red because I follow the footsteps of the forefathers.
So who will follow in my footsteps? If I follow my grandfathers footsteps, they will never follow mine, I am but dust in history. If they want to live in the past, they will follow his footsteps. Am I to be forever trapped in the past, never to blaze new trails? Am I being paid to be a redman in the zoo for future generations to forever drive thru and enjoy? In short, is my genetics for sale to the highest bidder, or am I a man, not a breeding experiment.
It is not as easy to see for the blacks, but welfare is the Indian Affairs office, and Harlem is the Rez. If you describe yourself as a color to gain an advantage, you are an automatic looser. We are all just men, we are all red inside. And we are all born a blank slate. We learn to be black or red or white after we learn to speak.

Enthrallment to the democrat party is caused of the false perception of a link between Marxism and civil rights.
People need to realize that the end of segregation meant opportunity for all Americans, and to forget that early leaders in the civil rights movment had Communist connections.
The leftists were (and are) not interested in freeing anybody. All they want is discord in society until ALL Americans are enslaved.

Yes, I've seen many reservations - dead ends. You don't abandon your heritage when you work to improve your lot and your family's ability to prosper.

I have an idea for them. How about outrage at their conversion to Islam which is without a doubt the most brutal religion in history.

EXCELLENT article. It does my heart good to see that the sleeping giant of black America is waking up to the TRUE source of its problems. It sure isn't this humble writer. We don't have to have mortal combat occuring between the races because supposedly we ALL want the same thing. Enough of the "victim" crap, already.
One question though:
isn't "liberal cognoscenti" a near-oxymoronic term? ;º)
