For your information, the sound of the round being fire is good enough to pin-point the direction of where the shot was fired.

Combat experience in Viet Nam taught me otherwise. Somethng as simple as a brick wall can easily cause the sound to mislead you by 90 degrees. Echos can make a single shot sound like several shots from different locations. Muffled shots from a distance are substantially non directional.
