Well, if you know these "perfectly nice guys" send them my way. I don't need their money...I have my own...but darned if I can find a nice guy. I end up in that vicious cycle of being the giver and them being the taker. Women get hosed too.

What do you offer, and what do you expect?

Women get hosed too.

Determining the degree of hosing suffered by each sex should not be an issue here. Most of us have a basic understanding that this society is headed for a serious crack-up if it does not figure out how to reverse the tide toward divorce and single parenthood.

Whether you or I personally find the love of our lives will matter little if we're all living in a giant Hell-hole full of conscience-free sociopaths of the sort that get turned out in huge numbers once single parenthood in a community reaches a critical mass.

I also believe there is a long-run issue of men "giving a damn" about a society where adult males are routinely estranged from their children by government edict. It's hard to see that if you only look at things from the level of individuals, but from a societal perspective we are well along that path already. A majority of children in this country do not live in the same house with their biological fathers; I don't think the human race has ever seen that before, and I suspect it has implications for how much effort men as a class put into caring about the future. A lot of things we all take for granted depend on that motivation, and its absence could lead to the sort of infrastructure breakdowns we saw in the old USSR. When men no longer give a damn, many of the physical systems start to deteriorate, simply from lack of caring.

We have to fix this, or I think we're hosed. My question is, are you ready to give up your nuke in return for keeping a civil society that works? I suspect you can't have both.
