[history]
When it comes to crime in St. Louis, Eric wants someone to step up to bat.
Eric is a black man in his 40s who served in the armed forces and returned to his hometown 15 years ago. Sometimes he wonders whether he made the right choice. He's skeptical of the African-Americans here who call themselves leaders.

Sober look at a serious problem.
From the article: Let's face it: Whites won't take a leadership role when it comes to black-on-black crime. Some don't care; others feel it's not their concern; others fear being called racist if they speak up.
This is a problem that won't be solved until the people who are most impacted by it make it their problem to solve. Once that happens I am confident the larger community will provide as much help and suppport as needed.

I think 99.9% of whites fall into the third category--they certainly care but are afraid of being called racist.

Good post, thanks.
Another item to add is that there is a "man bites dog" aspect to this. Why run the same ole story day after day, that isn't going to sell newspapers.
Another one is that railing against black on black crime doesn't get a Rev Jackson type air time or donations. It doesn't get anyone's ire up so it remains on the backburner.
Its said, but its almost as if the black 'leaders' have accepted black on black crime as a law of nature, like gravity. There's always going to be it so why fight?

Last year, the city saw 147 homicides. Among the victims, 128 were black. The Democrats have done what the Klan couldn't do.

The Democrat plantation is worse in many ways than the old Southern plantation.

Which was, incidentally, run by Democrats.

The Democrats have done what the Klan couldn't do. At least that explains why Senator Byrd is a Democrat...
To: FairWitness
That's because no one witnesses black on black crime. Ask them.

The same, sad murder statistics happen here in Milwaukee. It's hard to get worked up when one gang banger kills another, but violence begets violence.
Too often the victim is a youth who was trying to be a good son/daughter. One who stayed in school, wasn't in trouble, but was out too late and ran into some toughs. That's wrong as honest people shouldn't have to hide at home when the sun goes down. I'd like to see some outcry when an innocent victim was involved to show the toughs we still care about life.

Well, heck, did anyone listen to Juan Williams on Brit Hume's show last night? He was telling about how he got lambasted for going "off the plantation" by other blacks when he praised Clarence Thomas, and how they ostracised him, and consider him a "conservative"......and look at Belafonte's comments towards Powell and Rice.....THOSE who "lead" the Blacks will NOT say anything to upset their POWER!

Black conservative pingIf you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Have people been following the case in Baltimore where a woman and her children were burned to death for reporting the neighborhood drug dealers to the police? Her husband just barely escaped, was in a coma, and I hate to think how horrible it will be for him when he wakes up to realize his whole family is gone.
The first target of angst after this event in Baltimore was the police for not protecting this woman as an informant. And it's true that the police should have posted guards at her house considering the danger.
But if that outrage had been tapped before at the neighborhood drug dealers and hoodlums, maybe this woman and her children would have been spared...

I'm frankly surprised to see a leftist like Greg Freeman even mention this issue - it's been a serious problem in St. Louis for a long time. Nothing will change until the black community stops voting in the same corrupt politicians year after year. The district affected most by high crime in St. Louis is represented by William Lacy Clay, son of the 30-year congressman William Clay. Neither of these leftists would ever consider voting to approve a tough-on-crime nominee to the federal courts. They only vote for feel-good leftists whose objective is to abolish capital punishment and release more criminals onto the streets. So, my recommendation to Mr. Freeman and his fellow travellers is this: If you want to see who is a major part of the problem, take a good long look in the mirror.
To: FairWitness
As with any problem, the first and second rational steps towards an utile solution are to recognize that a problem exists and to define its exact true nature. This has not been done by the soi-disant Black Leaders, for political and monetary reasons, so of course no "solution" they offer has a hope in Hell of functioning.
I have a marginally related series of questions. Allow me to preface these by stating that I am a white american man, one who is quite tired of hearing the hue and cry over white-against-black hate crime when something quite different, quite possibly the antipodal opposite, seems to be the trend in reality. My questions are these:
1. Since 1970, how many blacks have been murdered by whites in the United States?
2. Since 1970, how many whites have been murdered by whites in the United States?
3. Since 1970, how many blacks have been murdered by blacks in the United States?
4. Since 1970, how many whites have been murdered by blacks in the United States?
5. What is the average annual toll in these four categories over the last ten years?
6. What are the year-by-year totals in these four categories over the last thirty years?
7. In which directions do these totals trend?
I can ask no further questions, let alone make any rational fact-based statements, until I have these requested data in hand. To further this objective, I ask a final question: From which reputable source may I glean these data, and where can I find or contact this/these source(s)?

I'm frankly surprised to see a leftist like Greg Freeman even mention this issue - it's been a serious problem in St. Louis for a long time. I don't know how "leftist" Mr. Freeman is, but I gather from the article that the pain of what is happening in the inner city has become greater than any disinclination to "air the dirty laundry in public".
To: FairWitness
Whenever I hear black leftists address "black on black" crime, they typically start out with a good talk, but end up at, "Its still whitey's fault for putting a gun store and liquor store on every corner in the black community".
To: FairWitness
Oakland Ca had their 90th homicide yesterday...most of it black on black. 10 years ago they had 150 killings for the year.

Sources?
There was a Federal study released within the past few months that contains a lot of this information. I thought I had the link but now I can't find it.
