If they put on the jacket, they would stow the gun in the trunk of a car. If someone saw them putting a gun case into a trunk of a car with an ATF or FBI jacket on, most people wouldn't give it a second thought.

However, I believe that the sniper is on a mountain bike and uses a Thompson Contender .223 pistol with a good scope. After he shoots the TC .223 goes into his Camel Back Hydration Back Pack, and he gets on his mountain bike and rides the opposite direction of the decoy/dummy white van.

A mile or so away he rides up to his helper in a parked car with a bike rack. The helper/spotter pops the trunk and the Camel Bak Pack goes into the trunk with the bike helmet and riding jacket on top of it. He shuts the trunk and puts his mountain bike on the bike rack, and they drive the car in the opposite direction of all the poor guys being pulled out of white vans while just trying to work.

"That's why I'm thinking the weapon must be in plain sight, but nobody notices because it's normal for whomever they impersonate to carry such a weapon."

That may be but unfortunately I don't know enough about biking, we don't have a lot of them here, to come to a logical conclusion. I still tend to think that the person is somehow going to ground quickly after the shot, which is how they are avoiding the dragnets, and I suppose the scenario you lay out is plausible in that context.

Just out of curiosity, are there any Mosques in the area?

But as with most of the post on these threads, it's just a guess.

Now Rita Cosby says they have a BOLO for white or cream Toyota station wagons, possibly seen in the area of some of the shootings. And she just gave the complete bio of the Ponderosa victim, hometown, recent real estate transactions-all easily verified, but, not his name, to "protect his identity".

Who is going to notice them? Dogs bark all the time particuliary after a gun is fired or a firecracker goes off.

They are looking for someone driving a white van.

Thanks to the cloak of silence on any real data about the appearance of the sniper, no one knows who or what to be looking for.

Is the Apt. Building tenants still on lock down?

I heard a blurb on MSNBC that agents were doing a shoulder to shoulder search in the vicinity of the apts.

Anyone else catch that?

Several reports from FReepers mentioning several mosques in the area. I think someone posted a map, but I can't remember who it was. Sorry.

Even the appearance of a guy on a bicycle in an area not very close to the shooting scene would generate some curiosity if it occurred under the right circumstances (riding in the rain and riding at night are two that come to mind). And even if there is no reason to be suspicious about a guy on a bike, this kind of escape method would attract some attention if people at multiple shooting scenes notice the same thing.

Last year, bin Laden swore in a videotape that "we will work with all-out power to free our brother, Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman and all our prisoners in America, Egypt and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia)." One of Rahman's sons, Ahmed Abdul Rahman, was in the videotape and urged Muslims to "move forward and shed blood." The northern alliance announced Thursday that it captured Ahmed, who goes by the name "God's sword." Bin Laden and other Islamic militants issued threats as to the consequences of a conviction of Rahman, and more specifically threatened a violent reaction if Rahman ultimately dies in a U.S. prison.

If a TC is used, a small folding tripod will add a couple of ounces and increase the ability to shot another 100 to 200 yards.

There are companies which make add on after barrels that are 15 to 19 inches long. Long enough for obtain close to maximum velocities at 100 plus yards. These barrels come off the stock with a flick of the wrist.

A good Leopold type 3x scope with a tripod would enable an average shooter to reach out and kill in the ranges used by this sniper. The scope, gun barrel and stock could be sprayed with camo bow hunting paint to prevent glare and lessen the opportunity to be seen.

None of us know what the sniper looks like, what his gun looks like and how he evades the LEOs after each shooting. I have posted the bike plus the TC as a possibility.

If the perps leave the area, your scenario certainly makes sense. Could have a motorcycle too and wouldn't need a car.

You are probably going to be overwhelmed with questions. So, I'll ask one, too.

The sniper wrote three pages. That's enough for a detailed psyche profile and a pretty-specific geo-demographic one, too.

Is LE working on this angle? It's okay if you don't want to respond.

BTW, I think that publishing this letter will lead to the sniper identification.

To: fooman Fox finally running with BOLO (Be On The Lookout) for station wagons....

Only NOW? Heck, folks with LEO air chatter would have known from much earlier today that a white Toyota Carolla stationwagon was mentioned, around 6:00 a.m. Pacific Time. My source, in the USA.... Reputable (i.e., that he/she heard this report, not necessarily that this is the actual vehicle driven by the perp). But it appears the media is now telling the sheeple some, what, six hours later?
