well, another possible silver lining in this hideous mess: this lends strong supporting arguments for home-schooling!

"-"Why is Bush wasting time on Iraq, when he could be saving our schoolchildren".Well I have to admit that I don't understand why we are getting ready to go to war before we have secured our borders, and done a huge overall of our immigration polices.
I think a big part of the problem that we are facing here is that we are already largely infested with our enemies.

Sure does but somepeople cannot homeschool. But of course in a real world alot of people have to work all day and can't homeschool.

"Heck, it could be a product of American public school. "
drat, you beat me to it.

"catch the sniper at the phone booth and they failed and then he killed someone else this morning"Well I am not fully convinced that this mornings killing is our guy\guys work. I don't expect them to be back to the D.C. area for awhile.

"Just curious. Why did the Bush-Gore recount tussle evoke two orders of magnitude more prayers in threads than this series of snipings has."
because the fate and leadership of this republic is of vastly greater importance than a mere handfull of muredered innocents, that's why, in a nutshell.

You know the old fashion police work with a good beat cop on his feet walking and talking to his people he protects There aren't any beat cops like that anymore are there? No police get out of their cars to actually talk to people do they? Not around here (LA area) they don't. In fact the police out here oppose community based policing.

I don't see them as being part of a "conspiracy" to keep the public from "knowing the truth." I agree, I don't think its anything so widespread or macabre as that.
However, something I do take into account is that most of the experts are experts in areas other than terrorism. It is in their best interest to speak from their knowledge base. Also, I have not heard many completely discount terrorism as a possibility. Especially since every other comparison they can make (i.e. serial killers, crazy right wing nuts, spree killers) involves an escalation of activity (killings get closer together or happen in multiples). This episode began with an attention-getting event (the first 5 deaths) and has seriously de-escalated since then (instead of hours, going days between shootings).
A psychopath is like a thrill adicthe or she requires an increasing amount of "comfort" for whatever is driving him or her. This is true in most cases. However, this assassin is so far out of the normal sociopathic or psychopathic profile . . . There is nothing predictable about him/her except unpredictability.
The coldness with which he targets people . . . the cleanliness of the assassin MOremoved from the victim. Distanced from the act. It is almost like he's doing a job or carrying out some sort of crusade. If we (freedom loving Americans) view American military snipers as heroes for saving our troops in times of dangercould it be that this person is acting as a hero for another cause? What is that cause? What could be so important that killing men, women, and children in cold blood would warrant his actions. As far as we can tell, this is not personal. This is mission-driven. What is this person's mission?
Just some thoughts. This is unprecedented, LS, none of us really knows what is going on. We can only make guesses. And yours is as good as mine.

I am sure he has his own agenda but that only he and the police know. Killing is killing - don't matter who it is. He only killed one child. Apparently is target is adults. Sure he threatened now to kill kids but that was only after Moose man said it was getting personal and now he has something that HE THINKS really gets to Moose Man. This man is out to get the cops. I think his agenda is at the cops because they are helpless. He loves making them feel helpless. If he started shooting cops he knows that one of then would at least fire back. Helpless civilians are his target because this can get the cops in a position where they cannot help the public.

If it were simple cash extortion, we would not have a national security level of response to this. Interesting take. Thanks! :o)

Who says people aren't praying? ;) The main way to pray now is--"Please let them catch the assasin" and "Please protect the people in Maryland and Virginia" "Oh, and please give the LEOs wisdom."
It's so much more general than that election, which was-"Please give GW Bush 2000 more votes."

"perhaps because (grab hold of a reality anchor of some kind) this series of shootings involves the deaths of a handful, while that lying asshole's victory would have accelerated the deaths of a nation ?"
drat. beaten to the point again.

Yeah, and the next time I hear some "professional sniper" on TV sniffing indignantly that this guy "isn't really a good shot," I think I'm going to pull an Elvis on my own TV. This guy knows what he's doing with a gun
I don't mean to increase your anger (or cause the premature loss of your television via Elviscide), but I can see why the "sniper experts" might say this. From the perspective of a military sniper (where 300 meters is close-in), these shots really aren't that impressive. They don't even rate as "average" for all the rifle shooters I know; and I don't think I know a single person who shoots who couldn't duplicate (or for that matter even exceed) his performance. I once taught a girl to shoot who had never touched a firearm before. After her second shot, she was shooting this well on a 100 yard range.
The snipers in the media might not be correct when they say that this guy "isn't really a good shot", but it is certainly true that this guy's performance from a marksmanship perspective is nothing special if the media statements about the range from which his is shooting are to be believed.
To: Lobbyist
"How do we know it was not placed there before the shooting? "
It may have been. However, that means it must have been placed by someone with foreknowledge of teh shooting, which means the sniper or an accomplice.
To: DoughtyOne
On the other hand I'd sure hate to find out in the end that this was some white guy trying to make a statement in objection to the diversity... They're not even people to him. They are just props in his play.
To: areafiftyone
"and the police know"Now that's a stretch.
Sure he threatened now to kill kids but that was only after Moose man said it was getting personal and now he has something that HE THINKS really gets to Moose Man."
But the Moose said that almost two weeks ago. Why is there a delayed response?
"He only killed one child. Apparently his target is adults"
I think this nonsense that his victims are random is just that, nonsense. What his victims have in common is that they cut across all demographic lines. In other words, the message being sent here is that no one is safe, it doesn't matter what group you belong to.
And the targeting of schools and children is right out of the Al-Qaeda play book.
To: Samwise
They are ugly, painful, and foul. Reality bites. I agree, but reality is just a abstract concept to the people we are talking about.
