Depends on the size and amount of fragments. From my memory, all they are really saying is that the ammo is the same caliber and type. Not that they have conclusively tied all the slugs with the same gun. In fact, I believe they have shyed away from that. You need enough of the fragment to determine the number of lands and grooves. Then you need to be able to identify the direction of the twist of the lands and grooves. If the slugs are severly fragmented, then that may be impossible. Maybe only that they are able to determine from the weight of the fragments that they are in the range of .223. One of the factors in determining the caliber is the weight of the slug. Each caliber has a different weight range. So that may be where they are coming from. But I doubt that they had conclusively tied these all to the same gun.

To me, the choice of ammunition says this is most likely related to ME terrorists working in a group, or at least that it is some kind of a group.
I would think if this were a single shooter with the type of arrogance he's shown, he would want the cops to know for certain that he was making all the shots.
