Satisfied with that scenario, I used my credit card to donate. Now you have me curious:

Does BADJOE have access to my credit card information?

I understand the concern, but does everyone involved realize that their credit card information is freely available to whatever merchant have accepted it for a transaction?

Even though I personally witnessed BJ's decision not to destroy the records under direct orders from JR, I would worry more about the local Exxon station, where I charged gasoline. Inaccurate charges can always be waived, but is that really the point?

The point is to donate to FreeRepublic.com, where Conservatives have a voice that is heard.

I don't want to elaborate on what my specific concerns have been (there's no need to do that at this point) - I will just say that I am comfortable using my credit card to donate to FreeRepublic, having had those concerns addressed by John Robinson. And I have done so - four times during this last fundraiser. And I would encourage others who have questions about using their credit cards to seek the answers - I think they will come to the same conclusion I did.

Just my two cents. I was one of the very first monthly donors and have been donating that way for at least two years now. I have NEVER had an issue with it. The payments are taken out the same day every month (so it is easy to budget for). Whenever I want it adjusted, I simply sent an email and it was done immediately. The whole process has been professionally handled by Badjoe and I never had any reason to even suspect that there was ever any funny business involved. Now that we have moved to a new secure server to process the monthlies, there is even less reason to be concerned.

I also want to thank the fundraising people for not automatically moving us monthly donors to a different system without our permission and also for telling us not to renew with the new system until now so that we didn't pay twice in the same month. They went out of their way to ensure we didn't get billed twice in the same month and that was pretty considerate of them. I hope that all Freepers who donated monthly before re-up with the new system so that we can keep the dollars flowing and Free Republic running.

I post my personal experience this so as to encourage others, who might be put off by the foodfight here, to use the monthly system. I think its a convenient and painless way to donate. It also allows me to ignore the quarterly fundraising threads with a clean conscience. (And no, I have no part in the fundraising committee.)
