Enraged Democrats demanded an apology from President Bush for saying that some of them cared more about "special interests" than the nation's security but after watching last night's CBS Evening News, will Bush and Republicans demand an apology from CBS after Dan Rather blamed them for letting "special interest money" get in the way of stopping the Washington sniper? "With a serial killer on the loose, you might think that police are using every high-tech tool to catch him. You might think that, but you would be wrong," Rather opined. "For instance," Rather continued, using a classic gun-control advocate's line, "while the police are allowed to use computers to trace the owner of a car, they are not allowed to use computers to trace the owner of a gun. One reason, bluntly put, is politics and special interest money, as CBS's Wyatt Andrews reports in tonight's Eye on America." See our Guns section to read the entire report or watch Rather's intro.
Rather also gave his opinion of President George W. Bush's proposals for dealing with Iraq. In his Oct. 7 syndicated column, Rather wrote that "responsible people" need "more evidence that the Bush administration [is] taking as serious a view of that war's potential consequences as it is of the causes for waging it."

I did not know he had two brain cells much less two balls.

Danny boy still hasn't gotten over being b*tch-slapped by W's father, about the time he walked off the set.

Huh? Hadn't heard about that. Details?

Dan Rather, angry over news delay due to tennis coverage, walks off set, leaving seven mins. of dead air.

When was this and what happened?
That must have been good.

"No news is usually good news, but on Sept. 11, 1987, no news was a complete fiasco. That was the night Dan Rather stormed off the set of the CBS Evening News when a tennis match threatened to cut into his broadcast. After the final game ended sooner than expected, Rather's tantrum left more than 100 stations scrambling to fill an unprecedented six minutes of dead airtime.
"At 6:32, the Graf-McNeil match ended, but the wandering anchor was nowhere to be found. Affiliates posted 'Please stand by' signs, hustled their own anchors before the cameras, or threw on The Newlywed Game. By the time Rather was retrieved from a nearby office, more than half of the show's average audience had tuned out. (Why was the other half still watching?). [...]
"In the week that followed, Rather was singed by a firestorm of criticism. Anchor emeritus Walter Cronkite told a reporter, 'I would have fired him. There's no excuse for it.' Johnny Carson quipped that the six-minute hole 'turned out to be CBS' highest rating of the year. They just signed the black screen for 13 weeks.'
"'He blew it,' blasted Phil Jones, chairman of the CBS-TV affiliates' advisory board. Today, Jones still scolds Rather. 'There's a reason people are called anchors: They should be anchored and not get up.'
"Chastened, Rather issued a written statement that stopped just short of an apology--which proved enough to save his estimated $2.5 million-a-year job. Even so, to this day, CBS Evening News remains mired in third place. And, in case you were wondering, Graf beat McNeil, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4."

"b*tch-slapped by W's father"Yeah, I saw that live and in color. It was classic. The shocked look on Blather's face was worth the price of admission. He got b*tchslapped, pistol whipped and blindsided big time. I laughed my butt off when I saw that.

Creep Rather has an expensive collection of hunting rifles so he knows this is a bogus issue
He could care less because he figures as a member of the elite his guns will be safe

On the white van seized today, there was a Mexican flag sticker, an NRA sticker (alleged), and a BUSH/CHENEY sticker. Wonder if Dan will make the connection.

BUSH: ...to judge my whole career by a rehash on Iran. How would you like it if I judged your career by those seven minutes when you walked off the set in New York? [Note: Rather actually was in Miami and he was off the set for six minutes. See Bizarre.]

I would rather pretend that Rather does not exist.....(sigh)....., but that would be denial of reality, a luxery reserved only for rather mentally challenged liberals. Rather is the medias poster boy for it's claim to being an equal opportunity employer, a solicitation, if you will, for the totally inept to submit their resumes.
As for Demoncrats demanding an apology from Bush for implying the obvious, that dreamocrats don't care about homeland security-show us that the other party cares about anything at all except maintaining their power at the cost of whatever must be sacrificed, and we will all join our President in a heart felt apology.
We do not apologize for the truth-that is a phenomona peculiar to the realm of democrat liberalisia.

Yeesh, whatta yutz! I thought CBS was fixin' to unload Dannyboy for some younger droid with a radiation-burn tan. I swear that fool is getting to be as much of a doddering twerp as uncle Walter ever was.
For a deeper analysis (not to mention entertaining delivery) of the days events, I'd urge America to turn instead to nakednews.com. At least their anchors have the brains to do two things at once.

I still don't see where GHW Bush is involved.....am I missing something?

Dan reminds me of the feeble-minded old coot, whose relatives can't bring themselves to take away his car, even though he is a menace to everyone on the road.

I had to look up Bush's reply. It is posted in reply #11.

I only posted Bush's reply to Dan Rather. The entire interview is rather lengthy.

Rather started his journalism career at Sam Houston State Teachers College, Huntsville, Texas. He was hired by the CBS affiliate in Houston (Channel 11, I forget its call letters).
He came to the attention of the CBS brass after his coverage of Hurricane Carla in 1960 or '61. Uncle Walter Chronkite, also originally from Houston, took Rather under his wing and brought him to CBS.
At Sam Houston he was a grandstander, and it showed in his coverage of Carla (Look how brave I am, reporting from here in Galveston at the height of the hurricane!) His coverage of the Soviet-Afgan war was also a grandstanding play. His coverage of the Vietnam was the same.
Once, at Sam Houston he broadcast the play-by-play of the local high school team. I was his spotter. After the game, he asked me what I thought of his broadcast. I told him I thought he talked too fast, that people may have had trouble understanding him. Rest assured, he never ask me to spot for him again.
I will always remember Rather as the King of the Grandstanders.
