G'morning kegler4! :)

Thank you for your kind words, but the truth is, it's the *kids* who are responsible for the way in which they liked to learn, and the results obtained from their own efforts. ;)

You say that *your* daughter has never had a day of home-schooling in her life, - "just good support at home."

kegler4, - that's *precisely* what Home Educating *is* and it begins at conception.

Your daughter had 4 or 5 years of "home-schooling" before she ever set foot in a public school, and then every night and weekend that you spent with her from then on too.

Well loved children nearly *always* do well in school and I'm not talking just about grade averages which, when you get down to it, don't mean too awful much! After all, - we don't get into Heaven on our IQ!

I am happy that you found a public school that you felt comfortable leaving your daughter with. Personally, I hated school, - until I got into music school that is. :)

I always knew that I didn't want to send my own kids away to be educated though. It just didn't feel natural to me, and we had a *bunch* of them! I loved having my kids around all the time, and really miss them now that all but one are out in the world making their own way.

If I were healthier I'd love to *adopt* a half a dozen, but that isn't going to happen, so I guess I'll just have to content myself with grandchildren, - the first of which is due on April 11th, 2003. (God willing!).

In the peace and love of Christ, - Anij.

One part of my education that I'm extremely grateful for is being taught courtesy. In this thread it is easy to see that many here (educated or not) either weren't taught this or at least didn't learn it!
I attended PS for elementary and have self educated since. Most of that education has been for naught, as I am now, and have always been, a stay at home mom. In the past I have found education for myself of value purely because of interest. In the last 3 years it has been of value in HSing my son and granddaughter.
I have children 24 & 10. The 24 Y.O. graduated from PS. The 10 Y.O. started in PS in Kindergarten. By 1st grade the school was pushing me to drug him for ADHD (We discovered soon after that he'd been being molested by an older neighbor boy-NOT ADHD) and had him labeled also as specific learning disabled (LD) in reading. For the next year after that I chose to HS him for reading/language arts and have him attend PS for math and other subjects. After that year he no longer qualified as LD in reading but was LD in math!!!! At that point I pulled him from PS. I did LOTS of research on; LD, learning modalities, teaching theories, ADHD, etc. I was very interested to learn how much of a vested (monetary) interest PS has in labeling children with subjective, unverifiable labels!
My son & G'daughter will never again see the inside of any PS! They may (or may not) be the best spellers in the world.(Depends on their interests) But they do know how to learn anything they have interest in learning. They do know how to think for themselves (as opposed to groupthink). They do know how to discern fact from BS. They also know how to do hard physical labor, run a household, accept responsibility for themselves and within the family. They know how to find value in people of all ages (as opposed to most pSed kids who can truly only value same age/same gender). I could go on and on, but the point is they are well rounded INDIVIDUALS!
Once again I can only stress that anyone in todays world that can defend PS hasn't done their homework! The biggest epiphany for me came when I realized that our PS system is NOT failing or sick-IT IS RESOUNDINGLY SUCCESSFUL!!!!!!!
