What if their children are being neglected? Do you consign them to the dustbin of history? What if you approach them, and say "your folks are losers, would you like an opportunity to not be a loser too?" And what if they responded that they want a better life?

You must prove criminal neglect in a court of law, trying the accused by a jury of his/her peers. If criminal neglect occurs it must be corrected by the family or the neglected children will be permanently removed and placed in appropriate foster care.

As for asking a child if they think their parents are "losers" (a very subjective term) who are going to make the child grow up to be a "loser", I submit that until the age of majority a child can make no such determination unless they become legally emancipated.

My, my - aren't you judgemental!? Everyone except for you seems to be loser, white trailer park trash who barely hold the privilege of remaining with their own children. And if you had your way you would have the state and its institutions raise the children instead but for such annoying obstacles like the "constitution" and "inalienable rights".

It is rare to meet such a devotee of the liberal-adored mindset of parens patriae on a conservative forum such as Free Republic. It must be so satisfying for you to vote for and support people who will, as agents of the state, carry out your elitist wishes and compel parents and families to conform to your elitist views or risk having the jackboots storm in and tear the children from the parents. How comfortable it is to have others do your dirty work - actions which you would not yourself engage in because you know you don't yourself have the power.

But I've seen firsthand what the CPS agencies can do to a family on the flimsiest of anonymous reports. I've seen the raw power they will employ, the crying children being ripped away from their innocent parents, the heartache of years of knowing the children are living involuntarily with strangers despite all of the legal efforts of the parents, and the eventual return of irrepairably damaged children, and the inability of the terrorized family to ever be normal again.

These are not some remote events that I've read about somewhere. I've seen it more than once and one time with a relative. I've been involved with the legal defense, read the motions, read the court reports, testimony and transcripts. I've been on conference calls or listened to the recorded phone calls and interactions with the CPS agents. I've talked at length with the distraught parents and know firsthand the damaging effects this episode has had on the family.

I assure you, if it happened to you or a close family member you would have an entirely different perspective on this issue.
