Well, anyway, looks like your back-up has arrived... now you can face her like a man.
The record on the thread stands on its own. No need for you to run interference for her or anybody to back me up. I think that "momma should have eat you" comment was pretty much the end of the debate.
To: Arkinsaw
Sure... that comment may have been over the top, but why do you feel it necessary to ping BuddhaBoy and ApesForEvolution to the thread so they can now launch into attacks on her?
Is it your goal to get the thread removed by turning it into a flame war? There's a lot of that going on lately, and it affects all of us...

I've been set upon by women in threads the last couple of days and the debate has been more emotional than logical. That has never happened in 4 years and BuddhaBoy and ApesForEvolution had mentioned that it was a bit weird yesterday. I pinged them because this was number three and you must admit was pretty wild.

I've never had a thread removed in 4 years and only had one post removed in 4 years and that was at my own request because I went over the top with Walt or somebody. My posts are not flames, they nearly always have a point whether good or bad.
To: Arkinsaw
Well, that's good to know :0)
Men and Women, most of the time, think differently... I can understand the way the females are feeling, especially the moms out there... I think it would be much different had not a kid been killed... I'd keep that in mind :0)

Its been a strange couple of days. In my time here I have rarely been able to tell the difference between male and female posters. The debates are pretty much the same. This sniper business is a different bird though.
To: Arkinsaw
I get it. We should just chill. If the sniper kills one of us, why, them's the breaks! The survivors should just laugh and get on with life. The sniper can only kill so many innocent men, women, and children each day or week without getting caught. He can only buy so many bullets. Assume he is in his early 20s, he can only live to shoot accurately another--say--65 years, tops. Even if he bags an average of one person a week, that's only a little more than 3000 victims total! That's less than .01 percent of the population.
Put it that way and its clear that we're stressing over nothing. Seen in that light, the WTC and Pentagon attacks were insignificant. How many souls perished--4000? Small stuff in a nation of 280,000,000.
Okay. I tried seeing it your way. It didn't work. I am still persuaded this IS a big deal.
To: Chad Fairbanks
I meant shot... not killed... my bad... but you know what I mean...

It's the "mama bear" that comes out in us. Don't mess with our cubs. We'll do anything to keep them safe including hiding them from predators until they're old enough to fend for themselves. And on this, I'll be the first to say I'll be more than happy to have the "daddy bears" out front and center beating back the enemy.
But just let 'em try to come into our dens...then all bets are off. We'll fight to the death to protect them.
Great analysis Chad, thank you!

Okay. I tried seeing it your way. It didn't work. I am still persuaded this IS a big deal.
But is it a big enough deal for all of us to stay at home and accept everything that doing so would entail? Should we shut down the east coast of the United States and have everyone stay home for individual self-protection? Or should we persevere as Americans. That was the whole point of the debate.
To: Chad Fairbanks
I meant shot... not killed... my bad... but you know what I mean...
I followed your point on that one.

I was worried about the Army marathon, which was this last weekend. My brother ran in it.
He ended up saying that not only did the sniper not have enough bullets to stop the charge that would have ensued, but that the security was fairly tight and visible.
A normal person might conclude that since the sniper passed on shooting at the Army, he would probably pass on shooting at the Marines. Of course, this sniper has done a great job of staying out of predictable patterns.
To: Arkinsaw
Yes, it IS diferent... for the first time, many in this nation have the feeling of being under seige, so to speak... I, for one, am willing to cut the ladies some slack on this...
To: Chad Fairbanks
I understand it and mourn over it, but I'm firm in my belief that we can't change our lives and culture over a guy with a rifle. Much worse could be coming and we have to be prepared to continue to be Americans right in the middle of it and not break up into every man for himself. I'm afraid we might be going to be learning some hard lessons from the Israelis.
To: Arkinsaw
Many Americans appear to have grown soft, as they expect the nanny state to are for them from the cradle to the grave...
In a time like this, it's our job as informed people to help by educating and motivating... We should concentrate on the men-folk - they are the ones who should be prepared to defend and protect... If they won't, they are not men.
WE are the line between the women and children we love, and the evil that aims to destroy it... Women will fight if they have to, and most would willingly die in defense of their offspring, but we should do all we can to ensure that they never have to...

If the shooter is a Middle Eastern terrorist, he may have especial hatred in his heart for the United States Marine Corps. Remember Beirut, 23 October 1983?
To: July 4th
It does, but then again, this guy (or group) has been pretty good at not getting caught.............would a trained sniper jeopardize his position?
I think they may have one of the decoy men who mop things up.
Hope I'm wrong

I beg your pardon?

Is there a new thread about this morning's shooting, and if so, can someone direct me to it? Thanks. I am sooooooo ignorant about the way this site works and how to stay with topic threads I am interested in. I appreciate your indulgence.
To: policedog
Yes there sure is. I always start at the below link, and the breaking news is on the right column. The thread you are looking for is on the right column titled "Fox News Alert. Montgomery County ANOTHER SHOOTING!!!"
