I heard that so many parents called concerned about the safety of their kids at school that they decided to close the schools. However, as a poster remarked above, it's hard to believe the superintendent is reacting to just a bunch of concerned parents. And why Richmond? Why not other local schools?

well, as i said on another thread. My kids are in school in Falls Church, 2 mi, from the home depot. they have been in lockdown for 2.5 weeks, but no one ever mentioned closing the schools. i just don't see it. The parental hysteria is helping to fuel this guy. There is no reason to take untoward risks, and i agree with the cancellation of outdoor activity, but closing the schools is ridiculous, IMO.

Just getting to this thread today. From what has been said on WRVA this morning, enough parents called the school superintendents that they decided to closes the schools today. The original decision made yesterday afternoon was for the schools to remain open under lockdown. Then late last night/early this morning, they changed their minds due to the number of parent complaints.
I think it's a big mistake. There is no information about what will cause them to decide to open schools again. Also, Randolph Macon College is closed as well. This is a small college in Ashland. They were under lock down Saturday night. Not sure if they are still under lockdown but I think they are.
