Babylon no longer exists in a literal sense. It was destroyed by the Medio-Persian Empire. In "end times" Biblical prophecy, Babylon is a metaphor for a world power that has dominion over Israel. Thus, it's more likely that the U.S. and its "allies" are Babylon. Iraq is just a poor, albeit dangerous nation that exists where ancient Babylon once stood.

Matthew 12:39
He answered, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

2 Kings 14:25
He was the one who restored the boundaries of Israel from Lebo Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, in accordance with the word of the LORD , the God of Israel, spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath Hepher.

Restored borders, 1967...

It is WRTTEN who the antichrist - instead of christ will be, not going to be a flesh being.

Who tempted Christ and what did the temptor offer?

No need to speculate.

Baghdad's grands projets in the age of Saddam Hussein.

by Edward McBride

No one really knows what ancient Babylon looked like--but Saddam Hussein thinks he does. For 2,500 years, the only visible traces of one of the world's grandest cities were a few mounds of mud bricks baking under the sun some 50 miles south of Baghdad. Archaeologists have scoured the site for the past century, carting artifacts off to Europe and arguing about what sort of city Babylon might have been. But when Saddam's Ba'ath party took power in 1968, he stifled this academic debate as surely as he did political dissent, for he wanted to rebuild the imperial capital as a prelude to rebuilding the ancient empire. And Babylon--or Babel, as it is known in both the Bible and in Arabic--had to be as grandiose and intimidating as Saddam's own ambitions.

The reconstruction project continues to this day. Inhumanly tall, bare walls with fierce crenellated teeth have sprung up alongside the unexcavated tumuli. Two or three feet off the ground, a historic tidemark shows the limit of the original remains; on top of them, a somewhat fanciful reconstruction rises. A government guide points out original bricks with inscriptions praising Nebuchadnezzar for his role in constructing the palace. Next to them, the restorers have placed replicas detailing how the structure is being restored to its former glory "in the age of Saddam Hussein." Every year, the guide explains, "Mr. Hussein" presides over plays staged in an adjacent theater built by Alexander the Great. One of Saddam's many homes crowns a hill overlooking the site, which suggests that the wonders of ancient Babylon--theater, hanging garden, and all--are simply follies on the grounds of his estate. The guide sneaks a timid peek at the palace, and then ducks back inside the ruins, as if Saddam himself might be gazing down with a critical eye.

This cavalier reengineering of Babel is not unique in Saddam Hussein's Iraq; nor is the guide's reaction. Like a monomaniacal Mesopotamian Mitterrand, Saddam has tried to establish his place in Iraqi history not just through a 30-year domination of his country's politics, but also through the bricks and mortar of a series of grands projets. In the process, he has created a new architectural idiom, one that reflects his overwhelming, unchallengeable grip on Iraq.

The "harlot" symbolizes the religious aspect of the followers of the system of government.

The "harlot" is the opposite of what the church is to be when Christ returns a chaste virgin, who has not bent a knee to Baal.

Revelation is about a system of government whereby the whole world is seduced by a wantab supernatural being claiming to be Christ, only he is a fake and the fake shows up first. (All except the elect sake by which time of tribulation is shortened).

I believe the Babylon which is destroyed in Revelation 18 is the literal Babylon. The seven hills represent the seven of the ziggurats that Saddam Hussein has partially rebuilt. The Whore of Babylon sits atop the seven hills, just as the first temple priestess, Enheduanna, daughter of Sargon/Nimrod, consorted with the moon god in the uppermost chamber of her ziggurat.

Yet, Iraq is not now the economic powerhouse that's destroyed in Revletion 18, so I don't believe the destruction of Babylon is at hand. Rather, after losing the war, Iraq/Babylon will be rebuilt by a well-meaning America and grow into that powerhouse, to face her utter destruction sometime in the future.

That's my take, anyway.

Plausible to me.

But I think we are all groping around in a maze on such prophecies at this point in time.

From the article regarding land concessions: "Sharon has been favorable to this in the past, and it would satisfy his unity government."

I don't know, but I don't think Sharon is going to allow land concessions. I think he would rather negotiate with the administration than have them betray him by inviting PLO to sit in on land for peace meetings like Senior Bush and James Baker did, so Sharon is saying, land concessions IF Arafat is replaced and AS LONG AS Jerusalem remains UNdivided (and the world-against-Israel will never go for that.) I believe when Sharon mentioned in his recent speech about "the painful concessions" Israelis may have to make, he is referring to a probable war. I can't believe Sharon has turned into a traitor.

Besides, the great city is destroyed in an hour and all the seamen and merchants of the world weap...which sounds more like how a soft, pampered generation would behave if Television were to be turned off forever..

or or how they would behave the day the Music dies.

Tower of Babel - Babylon - mean "CONFUSION".

Revelation 18 describes "CONFUSION" about the nations drunk of the wine of her "fornication" and the kings of the earth have commited "fornication" with her.

System of government where the wrong "christ" is worshiped, the political, educational, economic and religious institutions are method by which control is gained in the name of PEACE, PEACE, PEACE, sounds so good.

"I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow."

Christ is suppose to come back as a husband to take his bride "the church", and "the church" is suppose to be as Paul tells us;

IICorinthians 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have "espoused" youto one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ"

3 Bit I fear, lest by any means, as the "serpent" beguiled (means HOLY SEDUCE) through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is CHRIST.

Got to go to Genesis and understand before Revelation will make sense.

This fornication is speaking in a sprititual sense of worship. Note the last verse of 18 says "And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21, words out of Christ's mouth as to what it would be like prior to his return.

Revelation the seals, trumps and vials are words given to John when he was taken in spirit on the Lord's Day.
