Ummm....errrr....I'm a gurl. And I see you're from Virginia. I hope you teach at my son's school. Life forced me to take him out of Catholic school and send him to his doom in a government school.

You should consider home schooling. A public education will not mean your child is doomed, but it sure is not going to help him succeed in this dog-eat-dog world.

You might be relieved to know that there are some excellent teachers in the public schools. I'm not crazy about public schools, either, and that's the reason I've returned to school to get my certification to teach. I had to sit in on public school classes and was pleasantly surprised at how good some of the teachers were--better than some of them at my daughter's private Christian school. However, that is not true across the board and there were lots of things I saw that I did not like. Just stay involved and listen to your child about his/her classes. If possible, visit the classroom. Even volunteer, although that is not possible for a lot of parents, I realize. There are bright spots!
