I just thinking outside the box, tinfoil on, maybe it is a code and not what we immediately think.>>>>>
I had the same thoughts....."You left us a phone #"...
could mean...."You left us your demands, & and we are
ready to meet them, call us with further instructions"
Moose did say "no one else would understand this message."

To the person who left us a message at the Ponderosa last night. You gave us a telephone number. We do want to talk to you. Call us at the number you provided. Thank you.
If someone left the telephone number, why would the chief have to repeat that fact, wouldn't he know. He could have just said two sentences of the message. To the person who left us a message at the Ponderosa last night. Call us at the number you provided.

Moose did say "no one else would understand this message." The cheese is in the fridge... Repeat: The cheese is in the fridge...

could mean...."You left us your demands, & and we are ready to meet them, call us with further instructions" That probably is something like it. The phone number makes little sense on the face of it.
I'd change it to "...."You left us your demands, & and we are ready to meet them. Proceed with the next step you outlined."
