Id like to respond with this: Why dont YOU go out there and make find the guy instead of cowering behind the police to do your dirty work for you? I dont see your butt out there anywhere, but you sure do think that the rest of us ought to put up with anything the police might want to do.First of all, I'm not the one complaining about the job the police are doing, you are. Second of all, I DO carry and if necessary, I would hit what I aimed at. AND, I'm bright enough that if I was stopped immediately following a crime, I would not only let them search my van, I would show them where I keep my gun, and give them my permit. I take care of myself when necessary, but allow the professionals to do their job. That's what we pay them for. We do not pay them to risk their lives while we carp about how they're performing. That's so September 10th, or haven't you heard?

So, in your support of this broad-based search, they did find the guy, right? I mean, after having stopped thousands of vehicles on the highways and searching an untold number of vehicles, arresting people with their face on the pavement and handcuffed, they did find this guy, right? In your opinion, this action was the absolute necessity in finding the perps, so where are they? It was all worth it, right?
Totalitarianism isnt the answer to a problem, it is a problem. There are far smarter and more effective ways to catch these bad guys. The cops are taking the easy way out, and without any measurable results.
The dragnet was doomed to fail as it could not possibly have stopped any vehicle when it was in place more than fifteen minutes after the shooting. I am sure the people think this is all worth it. Fifteen minutes and probably not less than 5 miles away, and 28 square miles of area to search. Yeah, several dragnets later and no bad guy, but the search is all worth it.
