Indeed. My brother was married to a woman that would physically attack him. Kind of a Jeckle and Hyde thing, all nice before marrage and turned abusive after.

Finally, after having hot water (not scalding) thrown on him as he slept, he called the police. The police were, shall we say, less than sympathetic--imagine, in Texas, a man not fighting back (but if he did, HE would be in jail).

So, my brother goes to a woman's shelter and was turned away--was told his presence was unwelcome, as the shelter is for abused women only and men just have to fend for themselves. Nice.

My brother eneded up living in his car for about a week (poor college student) until he overcame his shame and called and we were able to help out.

I've read that's usually why men take little action about being abused. I recall about 5 or so years ago, a man went to a local womans' shelter. Although they were "sympathetic" to his cause (so they claim) they had no facilites for him (separate from the women). He went to his human resource department at work, and they could do nothing for him.

All of this came out during his murder trial. His family "didn't know" how bad it really was. His wife by the way got the charges reduced to Man2 on a plea bargain.
