Hey VaB, know what! This is actually one of the reasons i stopped defending the S-37 Berkut and the Mig-Mapo 1.42 (the new Russian stealth jets) ....and even my fave pet project (LOL) the non-stealth but interesting Su-37 terminator! I had been doing some diggin and i came across some plans for the Bird of Prey a couple of months ago (and they look different from the one above) and it literally blew my mind away.

It was so crazy that the whole Berkut/Mig 1.42 uber-image just faded away and i was left wishing i was one of the USAF pilots who would try the Bird of Prey (the one i read and saw drawings of was not an unmanned drone but a manned fighter that had some very 'interesting' features! I will try to find the source and post it as soon as i can). Let me just say i was a trembling mess of salivatory anticipation, guilless glee, and green envy at those USAF fellas who would be trying out that new plane! And as for prior absorption with Russian X-planes let me just say it became tantamount to how a little kid likes a toy, but when next Christmas arrives the toy is discarded! That is what happened to the S-37 Berkut, the Mig-Mapo, and even the Su-37 (which was the source of many a heated argument between us LOL).

In one fell swoop the Bird of Prey took all of that away! In that unless the Russians come up with something straight out of Flash Gordon there is no way they can match what is in the Skunkworks of the US!

Now the only issue is whether Congress will find the spine to approve the projects or whether they will forever remain a wetdream! And i also hope the technology is not too avante-garde for the brass! Remember everything from the helicopter to the assault rifle has met with great resistance from people who think it is too 'new' and too 'unproven.' Up to today i still mourn the fact that the YF-23 BlackWidow will never be in active service (it lost out to the YF-22 Raptor even though the BlackWidow had better stealth aspects and overall a better plane than the Raptor but it still lost ...the reasons given were that the YF-22 had better handling in short ranges although some say the reason was that the BlackWidow was too unorthodox for some of the Brass.

However whatever the case the Bird of Prey (whether it is a drone or the manned version) is one terrific @$$ whooper, and i have to say i am truly envious of the people who will be in its presence!

Ay caramba! I need to get myself a genie and make some wishes!

Seriously i would give a lot to know what is in the works right now! Think about how long the F-117A was in service before the world knew about it! Who knows what has been swooping in the Nevada desert!

Hence VaB my days of defending the Su-37 Terminator, S-37 Berkut and Mig-Mapo are over ...i have now turned to fervent prayer for their pilots! After all if they face one of those new Bird of Preys' they will require all the prayer they can get!

And at least now you will not have the opportunity to tell me 'I told you so!'

"Subsonic??? 260 knot top speed? 20,000 ft max altitude? Certainly not one of our heavy hitters, but boy could it sneak up on you and rock your world."

The low specs are because this aircraft is only a test platform for new construction methods and technology and now has been retired. This plane was operated for 38 flights in the mid-nineties, and now leasons learned are being applied to new aircraft. This aircraft will never see combat, but sofething based on it may have been built.

You can be sure that whatever was built after this study is very interesting. And I can't help but notice the timing of this press release: We're putting the heat on Iraq, and N.Korea thinks it's now a playa. These pictures just remind the world that we can hit you with stuff you've never dreamed of.

It is now. And we came very close to electing "a man" (that's debatable) that put elections before honor and duty, but we didn't.

The Montgomery Kounty, MD school system sent out "character education" posters this week. Topics and pix for things like "Caring", "Ingenuity", etc...

For Honesty, they showed a picture of George W. I was shocked.

If a bunch of left-wing socialist can acknowledge that the "Rule of Law" and integrity are still a good things, there is hope for this country yet.

Maybe.

The ubiquitous spread-wing craft capable of atmospheric, planetary or warp operations is utilized in two classes: the smaller B'rel and the larger K'Vort. Kruge's smaller ship had a crew of 12 in 2286; one on surprise military raids in 2372 against Cardassia carried a crew of 36. Its bridge design featured several styles over the century, usually with a direct rear access tunnel. Kruge's had a central command chair overseeing all stations; Lursa and B'Etor modified theirs for dual command thrones. As with Federation starships, a captain's "ready room" lies just off the bridge. At least on K'Vada's ship, the guest quarters are bunk-type and very spare, with only hard boards to lie on. Specialized rooms include Weapons and Engineering. Its transporter system can be entered from a corridor access panel — with the right codes. Its tractor beam appears blue. Even when shielded, its weakest point is the underbelly.

When I first saw this headline, I thought it referred to the recent sightings of a giant bird in Alaska.

For any who missed my posts on this, Loki is DARPA's manned
high speed underwater craft anologous to this aircraft.
Currently under development.

Thanks for the post!

I saw a very good show on the development of stealth aircraft in the US. Very interesting. In terms of economics, these planes are more expensive, but alot fewer of them can get the same job done previously by many more planes.

An interesting bit of history is that the math behind the physics of stealth technology was first published in the former Soviet Union. The government didn't understand the application of the paper, otherwise they would have classified it. Fortunately, others in the US did understand it!
