Yes he did. All he needed to do was to tap into the equal and opposite seething well of true Rightist thought that had been crystalized by Goldwater 4 years earlier. Was there a risk of even greater violence in the streets for a short while? Indeed there was. However, in an approach that Ronald Reagan, as Governor of California was to take a couple of years later in dealing with Communists rioting in Isla Vista and Berkeley, a small taste of the Augusto Pinochet approach would have worked wonders while not resulting in a complete state of martial law. Think of the big picture - how much of today's cultural decline and how many of our geopolitical losses from about 1965 onward were due to the aversion to a stragically effective, wilfully reationary and purposeful reponses both here and abroad? (And BTW - although I give RRR credit for putting down the Leftist mob in Anisq Oyo park, he did not fully win the Cold War - as we now see, given the resurgence of anti-Westernism that welled up during the Bush Sr and Clinton years, RRR only half finished the job...)
