There is no waiting period, only a NICS check to buy a handgun in Virginia. The waiting period of as long as 45 days is for a backround check for the concealed carry permit.

I didn't know that the concealed carry background check took so long in Virginia. Is that a State check or County? I bought a gun in Loudoun county couple months ago. I had to wait 20 minutes. Last year I bought one in Fairfax County, had to wait three days.
