Four Hamas activists from the West Bank were recently arrested on suspicion of planning to kidnap IDF soldiers to use them as bargaining chips to gain the release of Palestinian detainees.
The four, arrested by the Shin Bet Security Service and police, will be held until the end of legal proceedings against them.
It is believed that the four were receiving instructions from Palestinians currently being held in the Ashkelon prison. The Shin Bet says that the four confessed to the scheme during their interrogation.
According to the Shin Bet, members of the cell received $10,000 for the purchase of weapons, ammunition and other equipment to carry out the operation. The four suspects are from the village of Nuema, which is north of Jericho.
