Another unnamed federal law enforcement officer tells me the inside scuttlebutt in the FBI and other police agencies is that comments made by Ari Fleischer may have sparked a terrorist wave.
On Oct. 1, Fleischer told the White House press corps that "one bullet" into Saddam's head "if Iraqi people take it on themselves" would be an easy way to avoid a war with the U.S.
On Oct. 2, the day after Fleischer made this sensational comment advocating Saddam's assassination, the sniper first struck, killing James D. Martin as he crossed a supermarket parking lot in Wheaton, Md.
Since then, the shootings around Washington have had a terrorizing effect, paralyzing economic and social life around the Beltway.
Still, the police and government officials have been loath to mention the "T" word.

Grasping at straws.
He appeared on Fox News; same MO; but he is never mentioned. If he was in fact a 'first' victim. . .or perhaps they were just 'practicing'; this would surely negate this speculation.
Besides that, it is already in the 'handbook' about their willing to do the 'drive-by' kind of attacks.
Liberals must lie awake at night at try to find ways to blame our President et al; for every disaster. . .when in fact they are historically. . .and as we speak; the greatest enablers of our enemies.
Let's replace In God We Trust
with
I Blame Myself.
Same old same old.
Did you see the briefing? It was a throwaway line in answer to a stupid press question and he didn't advocate anything!
Aren't you smart enough to recognize a phony media-driven story when you see it?
Yes.
Aren't you smart enough?
Yes. PR is my business. I know to be careful what is said in public. I still like Ari as much as anyone here on FreeRepublic. But it wasn't his best statement. Had I ever made that kind of statement in public, I would be fortunate to have kept my job. And so would you.
Dee Dee Myers held a news conference and stated...on the record...that the people working in the Travel Office had commited fraud and embezzlment. She didn't say "alleged" or talk about an investigation. She declared them guilty. The White House press corps dutifully wrote down every word. Just like they did with Mike McCurry.
Did any of Clinton's spokespeople ever say a single thing in eight years that was condemned in the press or that even made the news?
Of course not. Oh, yeah, once during the Monica portion of Clinton's presidency, McCurry put a paper bag over his head and joked that he was the "Unknown Spokesperson" and knew nothing. They laughed till they cried and it made all the network news shows.
And I hate to mention it, but this isn't about you. Besides, PR is what Carville & Begala do, not what Ari does. Even saying that, the press totally vilified and trashed Lee Atwater everyday of his life...one of them even wrote a book slamming him, but Carville and Begala can lie, interfere with a federal investigation and declare "War!" on an officer of the Justice department and all we hear is ***crickets***.
I understand your personal sensibilities were offended by Ari's aside, but come on...this is a non-story.
