The second to last sentence is a tremendous slight to Mark Steyn. I am at the gym on a bike; I am unable to elaborate right now. Someone ping Pokey, please. We should add this columnist to the ping list somehow; send him Steyn's latest column.

The second to last sentence is a tremendous slight to Mark Steyn. I don't know about that. But Hitchens apparently coined the term "Islamofascism." I don't know if "fascist" is the most apt term for it, but the term probably is meant to appeal to the rhetoric of the far left, which uses the term "fascist" almost reflexively.

Plus I'll add that there are plenty of writers, whatever political stripe, writing about the phenomenon. Focusing on the Hitchens v. (fill in the blank) struggles among the calcified left is not dissimilar to Drudge-like fascination about talking heads in the media, or certain personality battles inside the beltway.
