I saw them closing night at the forum. They played two shows in frisco and then John died.
They were the greatest concert I ever saw and I saw lot of them. I took a bus there and thumbed back to vegas from the concert. Two chicks picked us up after the show and told us they would give us a ride to the freeway where we could thumb to I15. They dumped us in the middle of nowhere. My mind wasnt right or I would not have fallen for it.
We slept on someones front yard till sunrise.
The show was fantastic. They played for almost 5 hours. When Bonham did his drum solo the drum set rose up and he started barely hitting till it got way up in the air and then he started pounding and the drums were synthesized? I dunno the right word for it but it was new for drums and the sound just reverated around the forum. It was great.
They were my first album and I have always felt they were the best band ever.
Nobody in music today does anything close to what they did.

As to those who say it wont be Zepplin. I say them using bonhams son makes it legit.
John will be doing cartwheels in heaven or hell.

I also saw Bonham when they played Hammerjacks and thought he was good. He's not his father, but he's certainly not bad.

Agreed, but IMHO, Led Zeppelin II and Physical Graffiti are their best. Of course, pretty much everything they did pre-Presence is among the best rock and roll ever recorded. As much of a tightwad as I am, I'll scrape together the money to see Zep if they tour again.

If Page can still play Dazed and Confused note for note on that Gibson, I'll be there. I saw the Zep twice in the 70's here in Indy and they were as tight musically as any band I ever saw. Page's mastery and vituosity of the guitar is worth the price of admission - he is without a doubt the most technically proficient guitar player I've ever seen. (His sound isn't my favorite but his technique is unmatched.) Page, Beck, Santana and Buck Dharma were the best guitar players I ever saw.

I will have to agree with that statement only to change the word "today" to "ever". That's the music that will still give this ol' girl goose-bumps to this day. IMHO, none sounds better when it's cranked all the way up.

I had tickets to see them in Tampa in 1977, I got in late, and then it started raining.
They quit playing and all hell broke loose. It's the only time that I am glad I had crappy seats, I was out of there in a flash.

Yeah.... I bet!
The last stadium Rock concert I went to I realized I was getting a little to old to be slammed around by a crowd... and that was almost 10 years ago...
I never saw Zeppelin... But I saw some good shows in my day! Now I would be more likely to see Jimmy Buffett at an outdoor amphitheater where I could have cheese and wine on the lawn while I listen!

Had tickets for Oakland in I think '76, but that was when Plant broke his ankle.I think you're referring to 77 or 78, 'cause they played both days in Oakland in 76.
We were right at the edge of the stage & in addition to having our brains rattled by the music got to watch the interchange between the band members up close.
I had to carried my girlfriend on my shoulders for the entire 2.5 hours they played. The good part was her knees protected my hearing.

I saw Page and Plant at MCI center and as well twice at US Air Arena, in D.C. Area.
I am there. Those concerts I went to were tremendous.
Better than any concert I have ever been to.
Can't wait for the DC dates. Little old but I will be there.......

"They played for almost 5 hours."
It takes a strong band to be able to do that.

Every guitarist I've seen try to play it with the wave of a hand blows it. They truncate the riff. Right. The little sixteenth note chunks are important, especially the one before the first beat. If you listen closely, Page misses some himself!
On the other hand, I only started playing about five years ago, and I have to say that the worst thing I could have done was try to learn Zeppelin (and SRV, Clapton, etc) tunes. Should have started out with simple stuff.

It sure is depressing to hear that a band that I grew up with (and worshipped) is so damn old! Where have the years gone? Look at the bright side, we grew up with greastest rock band ever! Many of us probably thought Led Zeppelin was the greatest at that time, but it is gratifying to look back 20 plus years later and still feel the same way.
I tell Generation Y types all the time that bands of the present era don't even remotely compare to Zeppelin at their peak. Back in the 70's a Zeppelin concert was a real event. They could sellout six shows at Madison Square Garden in a heartbeat. For those of you who missed them in the 70's, check out The Song Remains The Same on DVD.

All right, why has no mentined the Yardbirds where Jimmy Paige once played? I saw the Yardbirds in Reno two years ago, of course there were only two of the originals but let me tell you, it was FABULOUS! They even did "Dazed and Confused". It was a small venue and I was in the first row and I felt like I was 15 again.
Please, let Led Zep come to Austin, heck I might even drive to San Antonio to see them.
