On the other hand, the police may have asked the media to report this to try to dare the killer to stay put and stand to the challenge.

Not my idea, just one of many scenarios running around my skull since this horror started.

When I read "barcode," I had this momentary image of putting bullets through my ink jet printer....some adjustment might be necessary, of course, because I don't think I could fit a shotgun shell through my Lexmark, but hey, it's worth a try :-))

Oh I'm sure I could get either one thru my Canon printer but I don't think the remaining pieces of the printer would be of much use ;-)

"Glendening has also banned hunting. Some people -- myself included -- would consider that silly, bordering on ridiculous."

Not that I don't agree with you, but I've seen Virginia postpone hunting season due to an increased threat of forest fires. I guess Governor G is operating from a similar premise.

That's a good one! I guess there are no written articles about this yet is there? I'd like to have a more detailed explanation.

Well! This will certainly stop that sniper. He wouldn't want to break any laws now, would he? < /sarcasm>

To all the Maryland/Virginia are a FReepers: Expect a HUGE attack on your 2A rights, especially once the sniper is caught.

You worded your post (#100) exactly like Ann Coulter's columns are worded. Are you her?

Certainly not! I'm a married guy of 46 with two kids and another due in May. I know of and have seen Ann Coulter. I have not gotten around reading her books yet and I do read her columns that are posted on FR. However, I have not seen or heard anything from Coulter about Glendening's decision to "ban" shooting guns in the four counties mentioned. I just heard about this tonight (Tuesday, 10/15.) If you have seen something from her on this please post it. I'd be interested in comparing her article with my comments.

Aw, hell. I figures I'd be wrong.

Congrats on your 3rd baby. We're having another due May 23rd.

Go to Coulter's site and read some of her columns, you'll see what I mean.

U.S. (Military) aircraft joins sniper hunt: the aircraft is the Airborne Reconnaissance Low, a DeHavilland DHC-7 equipped with advanced electronic and imagery sensors, including infrared. The aircraft are based at Fort Bliss, Texas, and have been used primarily in the drug war in Latin America.

The Pentagon's participation also could involve a system of sensors that could detect flashes of gunfire on the ground, the official said.

=================================================

This is the real reason for banning gunfire IMHO.

P.S.: It is illegal to use the military for law enforcement under the "posse comitatus act".

Then why hasn't the governor of Virginia issued a similar order? Hmmm? I think it's just another gun grabbing politician dancing, and rejoicing, in the blood of innocents. I'm sure discharging a firearm, except at a range, is already illegal in all the places the sniper(s) have hit, or are likly to hit for that matter.

I wouldn't bet on it, but maybe the governor of Virginia wishes to obey the law. More likely is that he is afraid of the voters reaction to banning gunfire during hunting season. Discharging a firearm is not illegal if it is in self defense. I doubt anyone would object if Joe Average shot the sniper, and Joe would be half a million the richer.

Molon Labe !

Parris Glendening decided to complete the disarmament of the people of Maryland. Wow - what a gift for the sniper. He must grinning from ear to ear at this bonteous gift of stupidity from the government. The state of Maryland just extended to him an open season shoot any one at any time gallery in that section of the state. Now the gun banners, with the active assistance of Governor Glendening, can sit back and watch the body count climb even higher!

Montgomery, Prince George, Howard, and Anne Arundel counties...

Howard County must have changed a lot since I was a kid, when boys used to bring their rifles on the bus to school.

Has Howard County been completely plowed under by suburban development? I have been avoiding going back there for the last 20 years, because I know that seeing Clarksville would just break my heart.

Yeah, like I've already said, several times, the ban on bow & arrow is stupid. There.

And maybe when there are a bunch of hunters afield carrying guns, the sniper changes his tactics and hits the woods/fields with them hunting his human game? Or he takes shots at people in cars from the woods instead of people in parking lots.

The knee-jerk reaction people have whnever they think their rights are being absconded with rubs out all ability to reason.

Yes, actually, they do. We, like many suburban areas, including Montgomery county according to people who live there, havea problem with over population of deer. There is also goose hunting around here, which people, including my sister's family do from their own property not two miles out of the city of 70,000 they live near.

BTW, you're a Democrat. Democrats are the ones who resort to calling names when they cannot come up with a valid argument.

Typical move from Parris Glendenning.

He's been looking for an excuse to do this for years.

To H*ll with him and Kathleen Townsend too.

I just saw some idiot woman senator from Maryland screaming how we have to register and profile all guns to 'protect the children'.

I thought the left would have more shame, once again.. They always seem to fail me on that.

According to WTOP, Fairfax County is considering asking for a "regional ban" from Gov. Warner.
