Local news is reporting that the victom, Linda Franklin, 47, Arlington, Va., was a 20 year veteran FBI anaylst.

Now THIS ONE doesn't seem to be totally random now, does it? What are the odds???

in the suburban DC area? the odds are better than average that you are going to hit someone working for the government, and she just happened to be FBI. i still think it was random.

I think it is random, but the location was chosen in order to raise the odds of hitting someone like this. Fairly obvious.

Ok, *if* she was working on the case, then it means there is a HUGE leak in the FBI, and a connection between the feds and the sniper.

That might explain why the attempt in a much busier setting.

On the other hand, this would involve tailing her, monitoring her house, and/or intercepting a phone call to know that she was going to Home Depot.

Could just be a weird coincidence.

Probably pretty good considering this is DC and the FBI employs a lot of people and that it took 9 tries.

The odds that you will encounter a government employee in Seven Corners are stupendously high.

There's also the possibility that someone who wants to kill someone else for any reason could mimic this sniper and try to get away with the crime. Of course, there's the matter of ballistics, which is linking them all together. I don't even wat to consider a fed involvement.

Fairly good, I'd say, that at least one victim could be a government employee. The FBI is a pretty large employer in those parts, and the percentage of government employees is far higher than other areas of the country.

Not only that, I was musing on the fact that this poor victim and her husband probably thought the odds were good that a covered, sheltered garage was a safer place to park than an open parking lot.

On another note, a yellow Ryder type truck was the object of major police interest about 250 miles from DC in southwest Virginia. Seems the cargo it was carrying consisted of a white Astro van.

Poor guy driving was from Oklahoma. Probably got 10 years scared off his life...
