With 911, there was no immediate claiming of responsibility from Al Qaeda / Bin Laden. There were a lot of groups ready to say "We didn't do it", including Al Qaeda. However, Bin Laden was very quick to praise the attacks even though he said he had nothing to do with them.

One thing we all know is, they are very big on video taping themselves. Like the homicide bombers tape their "victory" before they do the deed.

Like Dr. Phil says, "There's a payoff in this somewhere for you." The fear and economic destruction of these actions is more than enough pay off in their eyes. Why ruin an operation that's proceeding as hoped by coming forward to claim glory for 5 minutes when, you get constant coverage for days/weeks (hopefully not longer.)
