"Conclusion: this is Islamic terrorism"Of course it is.........horrifying as this thought might be.
And whoever is responsible may be acting as a part of a larger force........remember, President GHW Bush (Bush "senior") was the target of Iraqi "hit" squads in 1992. I believe the FBI/CIA foiled that attempt, but there is no telling how many others are out there, waiting to be activated, with various targets in mind........yup, I think you are right on with this line of thinking!

as you mentioned previously, if the shooter was actually in the lot at 7 Corners, there was maneuvering he had to do to flee quickly. There is no easy ingress or egress, Patrick Henry drive is a nightmare, and if he had snaked up around the home depot to the Shoppers Food Warehouse exit onto 7, it would require a wait, unless he were going 7 westbound, but then that puts you right in the gridlock of lights there at the Syms.

bumpin myself a bookmark. wish this was in the breaking news sidebar like it was last week... that makes it a whole lot easier to find.

"Rt. 7 eastbound has enough 9:30PM traffic to make that possible."I agree with you completely. And, there are tons of side roads off Rt. 7.
To: AGreatPer
I agree with you completely. And, there are tons of side roads off Rt. 7.True enough. But they had to stop and park somewhere, and they had to do it fast.

What the hell has happen to FR? This is only the second or
third time I have read anything like your comment. Seems
like fear rules, even here.

Yes, like they were saying -- you guys stay safe. Don't go out tramping around their hunting ground if you don't have to. And stay away from that mosque -- it may just get covered up in Blackhawks, loud noises, and very pissed-off people very suddenly.
To: angkor
Thank you I appreciate your knowledge of the area.
Stay well - stay safe - stay armed - Yorktown
To: GeekDejure
If the shooter(s) are smart, then they wouldn't dare mess with the Corps. Unarmed or not, dealing with hundreds of very pissed-off Marines is not generally a survivable experience.
All the more reason for shooter(s) to attempt to show who's really the boss !!!
I can't speak for them, but I'm sure that many Marines are thinking, "Bring them on. Come on, just try it. Please."

I guess they could have driven into someone's garage in the area. Driving it into a semi would be risky because it probably would be checked.

Wonder if the nearby mosque has a garage?
To: Stop Legal Plunder
He will be dealth with by an armed citizen or a policeman, not by a psychologist. Either possibility sounds agreeable to me, but I would like the interrogators to turn him and his pallies (ahem) into useful information sources before they are "dealt with".
To: aristeides
Does that mosque have places where you can hide a vehicle? They should also check warehouses and parking garages along with the names of the owners.

You know I live in New York - and I was so upset last night by the shooting I can't imagine how you people must feel. I am so glad we can discuss this on Free Republic freely. Believe me it is effecting us here in New York. We all feel so sick inside at my home about this.
To: angkor
"But they had to stop and park somewhere, and they had to do it fast."My question is, "Was there a check-point roadblock on Rt. 7?" I haven't heard that one. My daughter was in the Barnes & Noble in Stirling about that time. She said she saw no blocks on Rt. 7.
If the shooting was at 9:15 and they took your suggest route, that would put them just about by the large Sheraton and the Cadillac dealer. My point is, unless there was a roadblock in that area at 9:30, there home free.

HERE is an aerial shot from the Fairfax Cty. GIS site

Police have licence plate information from witnesses, but they are not ready to release it (press conference on now).
