Just a thought - what if he is a long time sleeper, with a "normal" life/cover as a traveling sales rep, and he has to go home on weekends to the wife and kids

I had the same thought.
He is married w/kids and busy with his family on weekends.
The the places he has shot people are places that everyone goes in the normal coarse of a week and wouldn't raise any suspicions with his wife.
