It is apparent that part of what they have, which they've been keeping close to their vests, is a ballistics analysis which shows that the cartridge case found at a previous shooting had marks which were not consistent with being fired/extracted by an AR-15. They know, with a reasonable amount of certainty, what manufacture of weapon the shooter is using, and a "black rifle" isn't it...
