also heard the victim was on a parking deck. If that's true, would there be videotape of the perp's vehicle?
That would be nice. I wonder if this isn't just a gangbanger.
I'd be interested in knowing if the general level of more oridnary shootings has dropped any in the DC area. A punk with a lick of sense would not want 100 police cruisers and 6 helicopters descending on him and his victim.

Lots in shopping centers are often broken out as upper and lower lots. Looks to me like another mega lot. We discussed this days ago. Killer could be sitting in a car out in a remote area of the lot or even a lot across or adjacent.

From the photo linked in post #47, there is no parking garage, or even a lower level lot. They could either be referring to the lot that looks like it is between the larger strip mall and Route 66 or between the two strip malls. The parking lot has a decline in it about even with the larger strip mall.

That day they were pulling the white trucks/vans over...I couldn't believe how many there were.
Do you think he's using a white van/truck at all?

That would be the traditional sniper weapon type (not to mention a sight easier to obtain than the military hardware paraded about by the Maryland cops last week).

They might not be an idiot, just not knowledgeable on firearms.
You are right of course, a 5.56 or .223 is far more deadly than a .45 pistol (I assume he is talking about a regular .45 auto). The .223 is more accurate but the .45 can be accurate also.

Kim, it's a big county....I hear it's in the Falls Church area. Is that right, folks?

I was wondering if he was getting closer to the people he was murdering, but if he can get a shot across the road, he can still keep his distance from the victims.
Brian Wilson (FoxNews) said a number of marked & unmarked vehicles left the command post travelling at a high rate of speed. He estimated it would take them 30 minutes. I'd estimate a whole lot less than 30 minutes.

I hope they had a video camera in the parking lot and maybe can get his license plate. But that's a stretch. :-(

I-66 is very close to this area.
Brian Wilson on Fox now saying it was a woman, and she was shot once in the head.

I'm starting to think the sniper is from Virginia now. The last three or is it four shootings have been in VA. The sniper may be sticking to the northern VA area after the first round of shootings in Maryland.
I don't think it can be discounted that there is Al Qaeda involvement. Atta lived in Laurel, MD and other Al Qaeda members/sympathizers are in the DC/MD/VA areas. The precision of the shootings and clean get aways shows very detailed planning. Even with the supposed white box truck (which I still think is a red herring), there hasn't been any hard evidence found yet.

That "toy" gun (the 9mm Browning) packs a decent punch. I'm close to buying a NAA Guardian in that caliber. Anything smaller is ill-advised for self-defense, imo.

Do you think he's using a white van/truck at all? If he was I would imagine that he is not anymore.

"Anyone who would rather be shot by a .223 than a 45ACP is an idiot. .223 has far more energy and if using expanding bullet, will literally explode in its target."Depends at what range you are going to be shot at, no? At close range the .223 would more than likely blow right through you, whereas the .45 would take large parts of you with it if it didn't get stopped by bone or hard tissue. Farther out the .45 would lose a lot of its energy whereas the .223 would become deadlier as it began to tumble. .223 doesn't have the knock down power that larger rifle calibers have but when struck in a vital area the delivered energy is devastating.

One thing about that area. There is a large population of Latino immigrants in that neighborhood--either residing or working there.
Anytime you drive down Rte. 50, there are always people on foot trying to cross the divided highway between the lights. Someone might have seen something that people in cars or in the parking lots would miss.
I hope the cops have a Spanish speaking officer on the scene.
