Adam Smith...western social science/capitalism---the invisible hand(markets)!
Evolution...homemade cheap science/theatrics---manmade garbage/ideology!
To: jennyp
Why don't you just say abra cadabra...wave your morph---wand/mantra!
To: jennyp
If you want to make an evolution comparison, IMHO the systems you describe are more of a dog breeding type scenario. There is an existing designed system that is modified for a special purpose. (no reference to Steve Martin in The Jerk - please)
To: AndrewC
Yet with all our intelligence, it still evolved from simpler systems.
Every one of which evolved using our intelligence. No single person designed the car you drive.
EXACTLY: Even with all the intelligence of people individually, the economy as a whole goes along & evolves beyond our ability to design it or predict where it's going!
And as Hayek argued in The Road to Serfdom as early as 1944, this is precisely why societies that adopt the planned economy in order to help their people's lives always fail. In time, they either have to admit that they can't plan their way to prosperity (because the wants/needs of the people keep changing unpredictably), or they have to abandon any respect they had for individual liberty and instead adopt more & more brutal dictatorship to keep the people's goals in line with the current Plans.

the economy as a whole goes along & evolves beyond our ability to design it or predict where it's going! What the heck are you talking about? The economy as a whole is the economy as a whole. You can throw dollar bills at a chicken and take its eggs. That is part of the economy. It would still be designed. There is a Democrat design and a Republican design. Do you deny it? Which one do you want to have? According to you there is nothing we can do about the economy.

What "economy", describe what you are talking about. You are shotgunning terms and claims left and right.I mean the modern free market economy. It runs on relatively simple, clear legal rules, but outcomes per se are not mandated. It's a complex, unplanned, chaotic system. Individual employees, consumers, investors, and companies use an enormous amount of collective brainpower to try to survive & succeed in this system, yet they cannot design the system itself. They can only react as their industries or regional economies (or the overall economy itself) change around them.

You see, first off obviously you do not deny intelligence exists in these systems and furthermore you do not question where this intelligence came from... The implied punk-eek or catastrophes would fit better with a directed evolution/adaptation type scenario.
To: jennyp
I mean the modern free market economy. So why is it free market? Is that an accident? Where do these rules come from? Are they an accident?

Jenny, you're dealing with people who can't grasp the basic principles of biology -- with all the tangible evidence in the world staring them in the face. How do you expect them to deal with something as abstract as economics? How can they handle an analogy between ID and a centrally planned economy? I think you're the greatest, but as Dirty Harry always said: "A man's gotta know his limitations."

A little tip, invest in defense contractors (specifically General Dynamics) and
Well, we are talking philosophy here does that bother you?

Well, we are talking philosophy here does that bother you? Not at all -- when it's done skillfully and civilly. And thanks for the stock tip.

Our Founding Fathers gave us a representative, democratic Republic, 'if we could keep it'.
Irresponsible, lazy, self-centered gods-on-a-stick because they possess a peg-leg are the focal reason we haven't kept it.
Communism/Human Secularism takes over only when people run from God and replace it with the state and those that manipulate the ignorant masses for their personal gain, all in the name of THEIR best interests and desires.
The result from this deception is the situation we all, to some degree, live in.
We were designed to live interdepently, focused on God. Not ourselves.
To: jennyp
So, how do you make the quantum leap that 'evolution' of a man-made model equates to the creation of life?
You must have been an Olympic long-jumper...

Stating that, with NO evidence in support thereof, that evolution is more self-evident than creation, is in and of itself the height of self-deception.
Is it any wonder??? What a bunch of loons...
To: PatrickHenry; Heartlander
How can they handle an analogy between ID and a centrally planned economy? This gives me a chuckle. You must understand the red statement is from a "Biblical scholar" that is confused by the figurative. Earth on stilts.
