Interesting... There was only 1 Monday shooting, NO Tuesday shootings, 3 Wednesday shootings, 5 Thursday shootings, 2 Friday shootings, and 1 Saturday shooting. The Saturday shooting was the first one listed above that could be unrelated. If it is unrelated, then the perp would have weekends off, and Tuesday off.

This guy is on the freeway within a 45 seconds to a minute of pulling the trigger. That's what this has in common. He's planning his escape first, and he shoots the easiest target within a couple of blocks. He can get off at every freeway exit and just drive around until he finds an easy shot with nobody close enough to ID him, pull over half a block away, shoot and scoot. And if he's not driving a white truck, nobody notices him.

In addition to looking for an easy shot, he probably now makes sure there is a white truck nearby that will be seen leaving, he can then escape without drawing attention. The reason he hasn't hit on a weekend is that there aren't many white trucks around.

He's planning his escape first, and he shoots the easiest target within a couple of blocks. I agree with you. There's no need for careful planning, only an eye for a good place to shoot. And if he's extra clever, he waits to shoot until there's a white truck in the vicinity.

The reason he hasn't hit on a weekend is that there aren't many white trucks around. Do you even live in the DC area? White trucks all the time- handymen, plumbers, you name it.
DC ain't Peoria.

Your theory sounds good to me, especially considering the fact that gas stations are found at most freeway exits. When I think about it, there are relatively few activities we do alone, outside in public. Unloading groceries, gassing up, and cutting the grass are the three main ones. I'm trying to think of others so we can alert folks as to what activities may be targeted in the future.

???COLLEGE STUDENT??? Freshman since FALL SEMESTER???
Imagine you are a freshman in college...and you admire the killers at Columbine...but were too chicken to destroy the family in your hometown community...but you have an URGE to kill...so you take your urge with you to college and KILL strangers???
You are a loner at college...new in a dorm...no one really knows you..."still" feel like and outcast...you don't have friends, you can't make friends...you decide to punish the world.
Parents live in south Virginia...and they make you come home on the weekends...you are loney and follow parents request - Laundry gets done (get rid of trace evidence from clothes when shooting rifle) get more ammo...in a community that "may NOT be watching ammo sales too closely" - and of course - Parents don't have a clue...Sniper kid is home on weekends...doing his research on a family computer...plans all of his possible sniping areas.
Of course Freshmen college students in the dorm wouldn't "recognize" whether or NOT you are behaving "normally or NOT"! Other college kids are caught up in a lifestyle that is alien to him...and they alienate him.
Schizophrenia also "manifests" in the late teens early 20s...maybe he is schizophrenic...may be hearing voices...would also support the "college student losing his mind"...and college students who begin to lose their minds...act strange and people will avoid them...
ALL speculation...any theory is as good as any at this point AND until he is killed...BUT take into consideration...all of this SNIPING has started at the time traditionally FALL SEMESTER begins...
The two shootings heading SOUTH on 95 into Virginia on FRIDAY...verrrrrrry interesting......

Jim Martin was killed in Glenmont, MD. He was shot across the street from the Glenmont police station. Glenmont is a community just north of Wheaton, along Georgia Ave (Rte 97).
Sarah Ramos was killed in a shopping center adjacent to Leisure World (a retirement community), which is just north of Aspen Hill, MD and about 3 miles south of Olney, Maryland; also, along the Georgia Ave/Rte 97 corridor.

If there is no incident today I think it will be due to the federal holiday. Just my opinion.

I live in Chicago, nowhere near Peoria. We have handymen and plumbers too, just not as many on the weekends. Thank you for pointing out that white trucks are all over D.C., it explains why one is always at the scene of a shooting.

Hmmm... I like it. Does this person have a part time job to get through college? Deliveries? On Thursday, the first killing happened at 7:41 am, and the last one that day happened at 9:15 pm. If he was delivering all day in the area, that would be about a 14 hour shift. Your theory is good, but the vehicle baffles me. However, maybe the police have the vehicle all wrong.

He knows he has an advantage when shooting at night - LESS people on the streets - diminished vision from eye witnesses - IF he shoots today - it will a shooting tonight...he is a creature of "rituals", his ritual is very important to him.
I just don't see him going 3 days...he is a sick freak...with a sick hobby.

Curious the name of the street the sixth victim was shot. Also, any landmarks near him? Store names? Hopefull they will be caught before an 11th victim.

Is this thread for text and graphics as opposed to the graphics only thread
Beltway Sniper Shootings-Graphics Thread Monday, Oct. 14?
Just getting a little confused. I thought we were trying to reduce the number of threads, anw we are getting multiple graphics threads too now! lol

Great work-wonder if Chief Moose and his cronies have been able to cobble together a map like this, yet-maybe they are too busy making the composite of the Chevy Astro van. Question for Maryland Freepers- were all shootings in areas bordered by woods ? Or were some in areas that were so urban, they could only have been done in a mobile sniper's nest? Some of the early shootings were done so closely together, that I would guess they had to be done on the fly-unless there were teams.
