October 14, 2002, Jakarta: Indonesian Moslem Forum condemned the bombing in Bali. On a signed statement released on Sunday in Solo, they stated that the bombing was masterminded by foreign intelligence, particularly USA. “The purpose is clear, that is to destroy Indonesia, particularly the moslem, because Indonesia a country with largest moslem population” said Indonesian Moslem Forum speaker KH Mudzakir in Solo.
Present during the meeting and as key signers were KH Abu Bakar Ba’asyir (Majlis Mujahadin Indonesia), KH Farid Maruf (Al-Mukmin Ngruki) and Mudzakir (Surakarta Moslem). [Editors note: KH Abu Bakar Baasyir is the leader of Jemaah Islamiyah, whose involvement to Al Qaeda was recently reported at the Time magazine].
Mudzakir added there were indications that the bombings were masterminded by foreign intelligence because it was very professionally done. “If it were done by the Indonesian, it would not have such an explosive power. Only military or foreign intelligence would have those capabilities” he said.
Moslem Forum further warned that moslem communities, security personnel, and Indonesian government not to be drawn into internal fight instigated foreign intelligence, particularly US whose purpose was to destroy Indonesia through this bombing. “Government and moslem communities ought not to be drawn into a quarrel” Basyir added.
The same view was expressed by Jafar Umar Thalib, the leader of Laskar Jihad. “This is to justify their allegation that Indonesia is a terrorist country” said Jafar in Jakarta. Considering that Bali is about 95% Hindu, it would have been strange if the CIA had crudely zapped Hindis (along with foreigners) when all those millions of Muslim Indonesians were available. Odd how a Hindu stronghold was singled out, but the Muslims have denied it. (/sarcasm)
