Borderland Sunday, October 13, 2002
A Border Patrol agent from Fort Hancock was shot in the leg about 4:20 p.m. Saturday by someone on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande while agents were pursuing smugglers 27 miles southeast of the Ysleta Port of Entry, Border Patrol officials said.
The female agent, whose name was not released, was expected to be released Saturday night from Thomason Hospital, El Paso Border Patrol spokesman Doug Mosier said.
The shooting took place after smugglers in a pickup "carrying at least 500 pounds of marijuana" were spotted, he said.
A pursuit began "and the smugglers drove their vehicle into the water and fled into Mexico on foot."
Even though the smugglers reached the safety of Mexico, Mosier said, "apparently a number of assailants were waiting on the Mexico side, and a sustained barrage of gunfire occurred."
The agent was struck by a bullet that penetrated the vehicle, he said. Agents returned fire.
This was thought to be the first shooting of an El Paso sector Border Patrol agent in about 13 years.
On Sept. 12, two El Paso FBI agents were severely beaten by train bandits during a sting operation in the Sunland Park-Anapra area.

If Iraqis were harassing U.S. servicemen and women in the Middle East like this, Bush would be rattling his saber at the U.N. non-stop.
Mexicans OTOH can beat, shoot and kill Americans with impunity, without one 'peep' out of Bush.
Bush is a worthless, RINO hypocrite.
I'll never forget the spineless politicians responsible for this.

It is unbelievable. We have had our panties in a bunch for a year, wanting to get to Iraq, and can't even control our border. What happened to the drug war? What happened to the war on terror? What has happened to good sense? We are headed for serious trouble by not controlling immigration. Our sovereignty is not even important to the idiots in charge.

I'll never forget the spineless politicians responsible for this. The Republican Congressmen and Senators are under the same silence code as Bush is. It is time for a 3rd Party, we need some LEADERS in our LOCAL, STATE and FEDERAL positions.

Where's Teddy Rosevelt when you need him? Damn, there was a time that we would have troops going after those SOB's thiry min. after the shot was fired. If Mexico can't clean up their act, we need to go in a clean it up for them!

The office holders will give our lives and property in order to avoid irritating the Mexican vote and the Mexican cash. It is that simple.

Thanks for the ping.
I'm glad the agent is all right.
Unless George "RINO" Bush decides to make the border an issue, there will be more incidents like this in the future.

Am I right in thinking you are located in Arizona? If so, you guys are working out there.
What percentage of the crossings (in all states) do you estimate are apprehended?

I am also glad that the agent is OK.
Questions:
Two police officers are shot each and every day in the US, should the Feds get involved in those shootings as well?
If your answer is no, are these police officers then somehow less important than the border agents?
By not addressing the daily shooting of police officers in the US is "RINO" Bush failing to do his job?
Is being shot by a Mexican smuggler somehow more injurious than being shot by a Harlem junkie?

Thanks for the ping. We should be declaring war on Mexico, not Iraq. Somebody needs to be called on the carpet for not having put the military on the borders long ago.

Am I right in thinking you are located in Arizona? If so, you guys are working out there. You are correct on both.
What percentage of the crossings (in all states) do you estimate are apprehended?
On the average, I would say between 25 and 30 percent.

Two police officers are shot each and every day in the US, should the Feds get involved in those shootings as well? Only if a Federal crime was involved.
If your answer is no, are these police officers then somehow less important than the border agents?
No, the state and local police are no less important, but if they get shot, that is a state or local matter, not a federal matter, unless a federal crime was committed.
By not addressing the daily shooting of police officers in the US is "RINO" Bush failing to do his job?
No, it is a state or local issue. The states have governors and mayors to address those issues. GWB's job is federal, not state and local.
Is being shot by a Mexican smuggler somehow more injurious than being shot by a Harlem junkie?
No, but this article is about Mexican drug smugglers shooting a a Federal Officer, not some junkie shooting a local officer.
This shooting is a direct result of the Presidents failed border policy. Try and stay with the issue of the article and thread.

LE can never be conducting business to the satisfaction of some. A military presence on private property at border crossing spots will violate somebody's sensitivities. Heavy handed military tactics would be complained about. Eventually, aliens with guns will be defended by some for their right to bear arms, parents teaching their children on the run will be defended by some homeschool radicals, parents beating their kids on the run will be defended by the absolute parental rights people. Some people will undoubtedly lose sight of or ignore the illegal alien issue in an attempt to villify the government.
