Statistically true, but would you deny the citizen, whether the person be a plumber with a duly registered .243, a .270 or a 30.06 with a sighted scope (just as the shooter may have) or the citizen who is out of uniform the shot to end this bastardization of everyone's civil right to travel freely?

Rather than restrict the right to own, I will take the choice of all legal and responsible persons to own and carry such, for it far outweighs the looneys who commit these crimes against humanity and our communities.

The stats are for the legal and responsible gun owner, not the lone lunatics who show up every now and again.

If the shooter is working from a van with a driver is he left handed. I shoot a long gun left handed and found it difficult to spot light from the driver position.(I'm talking about jackrabbits now)

Nope. You misunderstand me. I have never said I'd deny anyone the right to keep and bear arms or to carry a concealed weapon. I said that I would not care to exercise that right myself, but that I was not at all uncomfortable with the 2nd amendment and carry-concealed permits.

My single issue here is just that: a tree in the forest. In the sniper killings, I doubt an armed citizenry will do much good. For all I care, everyone in the whole of northern VA, southern MD and DC can carry all the guns they want. That doesn't bother me in the least. I doubt it will help quell the sniper - and that was my point in my posts here.

I'm not concerned that the forest - the gun control issue at large - has prompted the sniper or other criminals. They operate outside the law, so laying more gun laws down is likely to be as ineffective for these sorts as making murder illegal.

Sorry - this guy is a rank beginner in the world of snipers.

I was counting him as more than decent given that eight out of ten of his single-shot attempts has been successful, and that he hasn't been caught. By all indications, the police are so far behind him that if he stopped shooting right now, they'd never catch up with him. I doubt there's many places around here that he'd get a clear shot of more than 150 yards or so - there aren't many 1000 yard open places here; things're kinda tight even in the sprawly 'burbs.

By Texas standards, this guy may be a grade A girlie-girl of a sniper. That I'll grant quite happily. But he's good enough, as far as I'm concerned, given his track record. 1000 yards or 100 yards, dead is dead if you're good enough, and this guy is, IMO.
