This is a horrid situation, and he is in WAY over his head, as I, and many others, would be!

It doesn't matter to this case if he is stupid enough to be a Kennedy,or bright enough to be a Mensa member. It's going to be resolved by either a fluke (traffic stop,SWAT team taking a coffee break across the street from a shooting,etc),or by somebody dropping a dime on the shooters. Sooner or later the shooter or his/her accomplise will brag or hint to somebody else that they are the ones outsmarting the cops,and they will get turned in for the reward money. If they were to stop right now and never brag,they would never be caught.

Anyway, real life seldom imitates the TV crime shows. Don't expect some Brainaiac to up and solve the case.
