At 5:00 PM CDT local media is reporting 9 fatalities and 35 injuries checked into local hospitals. 7 of the injuries are catagorized as critical. More fatalities are possible. Many cars are almost -vaporized- and are stacked upon each other at least two deep. Highway 43 still closed in both directions 8+ hours after the accident.

Amazing still photos shown on local FOX 6. Huge pyre of flame from cluster of twenty five or so cars and trucks. Don't know if these photos are on the web yet. Pictures taken by motorist approx. 10+ minutes after the initial pile-up. Amazed if a fuel truck was not involved.

One station claimed this was the highest death toll in any single Wisconsin highway accident.

Evening news now showing very sad scenes of people whose loved ones have not come home today. Lining the highway, sitting in the grass crying and holding each other. Hoping against hope that they survived. Victem identification is going very slowly. DNA will be needed in many cases.

Pray for the victems and slow down dammit!

I would hate to be a person who cannot get ahold of a loved one who would've been traveling in that area. We have got to thank God there wasn't a school bus full of kids involved considering the time of the day this happened. I can't imagine how much worse this would have been!

There was another fatal wreck nearby this morning in which a 14 year-old was killed.
