One thing you might try while filling your gas tank is setting the clamp on the nozzle (so you don't have to stand there outside your car holding it)

Not possible in my CT state because they are all removed. The best you can do is insert your gas cap to hold it. I don't know if the latches are removed in this area also.

What's with all these weird gas=pumping laws? Why on earth would anyone mandate for no pump latches?

I mean, its not like it prevents gas spills, in fact, I think it would increase them. Having the latch snap off tells me when my tank is full. Although I confess one of my cars has to be watched carefully because the latch doesn't snap off....but I pay for that because the pump starts siphoning the gas back into it if I neglect to watch it.
