Wouldn't that suggest that they either have an id or have something belonging to the suspect so that the dog can get a scent? Or is that just the way it works in the movies?

If the sniper is not a terrorist then he could likely be a service guy who covers the D.C. area. That said, he would be in the areas where the killings took place for service calls. It would seem that an employer who has employees driving white vans with ladders should be able to look at where their employees were called on certain days. Employers should go back and check to see if their employees were in any of the areas where the killings took place on those dates and times. They also need to see if any appointments in those areas were missed or if their serviceman showed up late. It would seem to me that businesses really need to check to see where their men were. Maybe then we will be closer to catching this bastard.
