I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.
No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.
Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

If I had to guess, I'd say less than ten miles from the river, but I don't think there's anything that would allow him to move underground in that neck of the woods. (don't hold me to that, though)
Assuming all three don't turn out to be red herrings/unrelated (also assuming they really have all three).

It would be a piece of cake. The AC's would simply loiter waiting for a call. When the LEO called in the position of a hit, they could throw down all sensors recording everything in sight. They would not need to search the crowed areas, because those would be covered by locals. The AC would jump to the less crowded or wooded areas. At the very least, the BDA tape would eventually turn up bits and pieces. At the best, they would catch a fast mover in the area and lock on to it. If no suspicious movers were seen, they could take more time and search wooded areas. There is never certainty, but this used to be an everyday training scenario. The problem is that, most AC's are deployed overseas, and they don't have many to begin with.

The victim was about 40 years old.
He was shot in the side.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Do not rule out terrorism.
I remeber reading a while back that Al Queda were joinging forces with right wing groups in the US.
If they did then this is a group of right wing nuts distracting law enforcement from the real target, as explosives are moved into place in Washington DC.
Remember they came back for the WTC after failing the first time to bring it down.
On September the 11th they wanted the White House and Congress. So maybe they have come back to do just that.
They also tried to blow up a ship in Yemen and it did not work the first time, so they tried again with The Cole.
The shoe bomber tried to get on the plane and was not allowed, he was then informed to try again.
Hopefully history is not repeating itself.
And chose not to get the trooper!
Do be careful re-entering the car while gasoline vapors are present. There's a potential for a static electricity spark to jump between the person and the car's body. A similar phenomenon is what caused the Hindenburg fire, and why gas cans must be set on the ground before bing filled.
Not officially, anyway.
